Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
Most of the time, yes. Our surroundings shape our experience. We express our feelings out loud through lyrics. But not always, sometimes someone’s story can inspire us to give them a voice if they don’t have one. Aborigines from Australia have an amazing legend. They say that a long time ago, every living being had a mission. Humans mission was to tell the story of the Earth through songs. So, whatever happened is remembered and History is not forgotten. Us songwriters are completing our mission.

2. What type of music did you listen to growing up?

Growing up in Tangier, our hometown, we listened to all kinds of music from rock to pop, the classics and the hit songs. Access to rock music and albums was very limited. We had one late night radio show, once a week, that used to play all the classic rock artists, from the Eagles, to Dire straits, or the police. But our main source of music came from exchanging albums with schoolmates. One of the first albums we listened to was Hysteria from Def Leppard, and then came Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Gary Moore or AC/DC. We grew up listening to classic rock, hardrock, and metal.

3. Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

Musically, we had many but mostly those who survived. It’s very common to put as heroes all those amazing artists that left us too soon. Like the 27 Club. But the real heroes are those who are still going today after a whole life of inspiration to all of us. From Bob Dylan to the Rolling Stones, to many others. Luckily the fans have known how to pay them back by being very loyal and still going to their shows today even if they’re over 80.

4. If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?

We would be doing what we are doing. We all have jobs. Unfortunately, it’s very hard today to make a living from Music so we have to pay for the bills somehow. Although life would be sadder. We can’t think of a life without a passion. If it wasn’t music, we would certainly have another passion to fill the gap that “routine” lives are lacking. Some call it a hobby. That depends how much sacrifices you are willing to make to change a hobby into a passion.

5. What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?

Well, we’ve been making music for many years now and we tried many different things. So far, we found out that there is a pattern of things that seems to work best for us. For example, find your own identity in your sound. Be yourself musically speaking. It may sound cliché but only for those who can’t understand the concept. Take everything you like about music, and remove all that you don’t. The final result would most likely be something much closer to you than you think.

Another thing we strongly believe in is writing as many songs as you can. You will never write your best song, but the process of trying will make you better after each song. The first one will most probably be crap. But you just need to believe that it is good enough until you find the motivation and confidence to write the next one, and then another one, and so on. And we also believe that anyone can write a song. Sometimes you just need a little push to get started. Just don’t expect to write Bohemian Rhapsody as your first song.
