For the second year in a row, the Working Families Party will have a major presence during SXSW, bringing together leaders across film, TV, and music to build cultural coalitions ahead of a highly contentious election year. Today, Politics House reveals the initial lineup for events on March 11th and 12th including a music showcase featuring rising Cumbia star Estevie, acclaimed neo-soul artist Yaya Bey and Austin-based bilingual dream pop band Luna Luna. Politics House will also feature evening parties from Austin’s preeminent queer country night Neon Rainbows with DJ Boi Orbison, including a drag show hosted by Brigitte Bandit – the trans activist and drag artist whose testimonies against anti-queer legislation in the Texas Senate earned the admiration of many, including Dolly Parton – and a cumbia dance party featuring DJ Sizzle of LA-based collective Cumbiatón presented by Mijente. Model and inclusivity activist Tess Holliday, a tireless advocate for marginalized communities in the entertainment industry, will host a special event as well. Stay tuned for additional lineup announcements.
Last year’s unveiling of Politics House brought together the likes of Bartess Strange and Madison McFerrin alongside political powerhouses like Congressman Greg Cesar, one of the youngest members of Congress and a fierce champion of workers’ rights, reproductive rights, and working families in Texas. Rolling Stone named last year’s event one of the festival’s highlights proclaiming “if this is what the future of progressive politics sounds like, bring it on!”
“In 2024 more than ever, our democracy is on the line,” said Nelini Stamp, Director of Strategy and Partnerships with the Working Families Party. “We firmly believe that culture shapes our political reality, not the other way around. For years, the people at the forefront of cultural transformation in our country come and gather at SXSW and I couldn’t think of a better time to build a multiracial coalition to save democracy.”
Politics House by the Working Families Party will take place at Parish on March 11 and 12 bringing together world class performers, cultural beacons, industry leaders and elected officials together to fight for a better future for the multiracial working class during one of the most vital election years in recent history. RSVP here.
