Austin, TX — SXSW March 2023 — Washington, DC-based Americana/Rock artist Holly Montgomery, who is signed to KZZ Music out of Los Angeles, will be showcasing her new album “Sorry For Nothing” on Tuesday, March 14 @11:30 (official showcase) as well as at a KZZ Music Party on Friday March 17, 1:35pm at Saxon Pub.

Holly Montgomery is a singular talent when it comes to songwriting,” KZZ Label head Kirk Pasich said. Life has made her tough and vulnerable, raw and witty…and she brings that authenticity to bear on every track.” KZZ Music has made it a mission to help recording artists create career-defining music. As they see it, Montgomerys album is just that: “Sorry For Nothing” marks the artists reentrance to the national stage.

In the early 2000s, Montgomery took time away from the music industry to pursue another fulfilling path: becoming a mother. She adopted three teenage Kazakhstani orphans through an organization called Kidsave International. The organization advocates for older child adoption, a cause close to Montgomerys heart. There are a million paths to motherhood and this was mine. My kids became the center of my life. I taught them English and helped them get into college…Of course, all the while I continued to write music,” Montgomery shared.

In 2016, the artist emerged back on the scene with the release of her fifth album, Leaving Eden. The album immediately drew industry attention and acclaim. East Coast Rocker said of the album: “Holly Montgomery may be Leaving Eden, but her music takes listeners to paradise.” Since then, Montgomery has steadily built up her large fanbase in the Mid-Atlantic region, touring around her home base of Washington DC. Im ready to expand,” Montgomery shared, And I think Sorry for Nothing is the perfect introduction — or re-introduction — to what Im all about.”  The artist plans to tour nationally in 2023 and engage in new creative projects through the partnership with KZZ Music and their parent company, Blue Élan Records.

Bill Bentley from Americana Highways recently reviewed her album and said, “Holly Montgomery has clearly had a lot in her head and heart the past few years. Luckily she decided to put it all into a blasting new album, SORRY FOR NOTHING, that is nothing less than a major score. Montgomery’s new music is an overwhelming achievement, one of the great releases of recent years with such a sense of moving grace that it really does feel like it is music that will last a very long time… it feels so strong that it could easily be a contender for among the best of this new year.”

Holly is also an accomplished bass player and will play three SXSW showcases in 2023 – FIRST as the frontman with her band, then SECOND as the bass players for the world-renowned BONESHAKERS (which consists of bandmates who played with Stevie Ray, Was (Not Was), Bonnie Raitt, Linda Rondstadt and many others) and last but not least THIRD with MUSTANGS OF THE WEST.

About Holly Montgomery:

Holly Montgomery is an Americana artist known for her soulful voice and confessional songwriting. Her lyrics invite the audience into her world and showcase the full spectrum of the human experience. In some songs, she’s playful, witty, or wryly observational. In others, she’s raw and achingly personal, every line as intimate as a stolen kiss. Montgomery’s career spans nearly three decades, and in that time she’s wowed audiences as a frontwoman and toured internationally in her own band HOLLY, as well as the bassist for Big Planet – named “Best Acoustic Band in Los Angeles” by the National Academy of Songwriters and all-female cowpunk band The Mustangs. And, in 2017, she joined vocalist Suzanna Spring and guitarist Sherry Rayn Barnett to reform the group The Mustangs of the West. In 2022, she became the touring bass player for The Boneshakers, a band with many of the industry’s heaviest hitters. She’s a staple of the Mid-Atlantic live circuit, booking hundreds of gigs each year, and has been active in the DC music scene since 2011.  She also continues to write, record, and produce; her album showcases her signature sound and solidifies her transition from rock to roots.
