Los Angeles, CA – Rising indie-pop singer-songwriter Payson Lewis has released “Back In Time” feat. Leah Lewis, a song 10 years in the making about a painful heartbreak, but with a hopeful undertone. Masterfully written and cathartically performed, “Back In Time” is a vibrantly heartbreak-inducing single that blends Leah and Payson’s elegant vocals and heavily layered guitar and drums, which build flawlessly into an emotional wall of sound that surrounds both the song and the listener. Capturing the atmosphere of a sold-out arena, the high-octane single is atmospheric, emotive, and captivating. Giving the audience the perspective of running away from the pain of losing someone you love, while simultaneously balancing the desire to change the past, as the lyrics suggest, “praying for my rebirth, a new life without you,” while, wanting to forget the pain of two people who cherish the time spent together, as “a way to preserve that moment in time even though the goal is to completely erase it,” as suggested by Leah’s booming vocals. Although he was unready to release the track, due to the vulnerability of the pain the song carried, Lewis first wrote “Back In Time” in 2012. Comforted by finding a partner to sing the song with, Leah, his girlfriend at the time, helped to capture the vision that getting hurt in a relationship is a two-way street and eased the tensions that Lewis felt at the time towards putting the song out into the world. Leah delivered “the sense of love between the two voices,” Lewis says. “Back In Time” represents both love and pain in one song, as Leah and Payson decided to amicably split up shortly after completing the song. The track was written by Payson Lewis, produced and mixed by Ben Soldate with additional production by Melomatic, and mastered by Eric Boulanger (OneRepublic, Rachel Platten, Selena Gomez). The song features Rob Humphreys on drums, Adam Tressler on guitar, Ben Soldate on bass, and background vocals by Kenton Chen and Rachel Bearer.
