MONTREAL: TUESDAY, JUNE 1, 2021 – Clever Plays, the Montreal-based independent game studio, today announces the launch of its asymmetrical co-op espionage adventure, Operation: Tango. Awarded “Best Multiplayer Game” at Gamescom 2020, this vibrant homage to the Hollywood spy-genre places one player in the role of Angel, the “Field Agent”, and a second player as Alistair, the “Hacker”, paired through a series of missions to bring down a hi-tech global menace.

Operation: Tango is available today for $19.99 USD on PC via Steam, on PS4, PS5, and as a free download for PS5 PlayStation Plus subscribers from June 1 through July 5, with additional platforms to follow.

Clever Plays is also announcing that it has entered a multi-pronged promotional partnership with leading memory and accessory manufacturer HyperX. The collaboration spans several activities that include the integration of HyperX headsets and other gear within the game itself, retail programs, press and influencer outreach, and limited-edition customized Operation: Tango headsets for promotional giveaways.

“In our game players must stay in constant verbal contact, so seeking out a relationship with the company behind some of the best headsets on the market seemed like a natural fit,” said Angela Mejia, co-founder, and studio head of Clever Plays. “HyperX has been an ideal partner for us in terms of their team’s creativity, global reach, and outstanding product offerings.”

The game experience plays out much like a spy-themed escape room, bonding players in the process. Playing from separate devices, each player enjoys a completely unique perspective on the experience. Working together, pairs stay in constant verbal contact, linked within an augmented, fully-connected, and highly-stylized world, solving puzzles, and completing high stakes missions.

Clever Plays wanted to ensure that players could more easily partner with their favorite teammates, so enabling cross-platform play across consoles and PCs was an important feature to the team. Further, they created Friend Pass so that players who own Operation: Tango may invite a friend to join them for free via the downloadable demo of the game on their platform of choice.

“This game is all about communication and requires a level of collaboration beyond any typical co-op title,” said Mattieu Bégin, co-founder and lead designer at Clever Plays. “We created this to be an experience you share, so we wanted to make it easy to find a partner on our Discord or invite a friend and play across any of the platforms.”
