Austin based music nonprofit EQ Austin is proud to be presenting two evenings of official SXSW programming that are not just open to badge and wristband holders, but all ages and open to the public as well. In addition, the organization’s community partners Austin Music Foundation and KUTX The Breaks are also presenting free showcases at The BackYard. All events take place at The Sheraton BackYard at 702 E. 10th Street in downtown Austin. EQ Austin’s focus is providing national-level opportunities for BIPOC Austin-area artists.

Thursday, March 16th’s EQ Austin lineup includes blues singer and multi-instrumentalist Lara Price; classically trained former Houston Symphony member turned R&B artist Daniel Fears; the psychedelic Colombian music of Nemegata, called “a sound and a discovery unto themselves,” by David Fricke (Mojo); plus silky smooth R&B artist Grace Sorenson who has opening for Diana Ross on her resume and genre-jumping sibling band We Don’t Ride Llamas who head straight from SXSW to Treefort Fest with Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Cautious Clay and Dinosaur Jr.

On Saturday, March 18th, EQ Austin and the Latin Music Coalition presents Venezuelan-born pop artist and composer Michi Sanz; multiple award-winning artist Destiny Navaira who comes from Tejano family royalty (and you can tell); psychedelic cumbia band Como Las Movies, who are slated to play September’s Format Fest along with The Flaming Lips and Beach House; Billboard Latin’s “On The Radar” / Latin R&B artist Shiela and Shrt_Lyf, who mashes trap, indie, and rock influences while staying true to his Mexican identity.
