Monarch – Legacy Of Monsters Apple TV Plus Review

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

We were able to preview the first season of Monarch for Apple TV plus for this review. All I can say wow! I’ve haven’t been speechless like this for a show in a LONG TIME. Monarch feeds on my monster love through from the Godzilla stories and movies I had grew up on.  I’m not going to spoil much of the show, but get Apple TV + to go on this wild adventure. Godzilla fans who love the lore and previous movies are going to enjoy this show!

Our Thoughts

Pro:

  • Kurt and Wyatt Russell as Shaw
    • Ep 1 and 2 bounce between the past and the present with Shaw. The character is played really well by father and son duo Kurt and Wyatt Russell. I have seen the new Captain America show and with Wyatt, I didn’t see much of Kurt in him. In Monarch, Wyatt is just a chip off the ole block just like his dad. He reminded me so much of the Kurt we seen on movies that it was hard to distinguish between them.
  • Story
    • You learn that this person named Cate is looking for her father and leads her to Tokyo. While she is going there, we learn that she was involved in a lot of tragedy due to Godzilla destroying San Francisco. Cate meets a family that shakes her foundations which leads to more questions than answers. Then we learn about Shaw, Billy, and Keiko in the past and how they are the foundations for Monarch. Between jumping back in time in each episode and learning more of the Godzilla lore, I had so much fun watching the show. My eyes were glued to the screen for each episode.
