Death Knot Film Review

Death Knot is a film by Cornelio Sunny starring Djenar Maesa Ayu, Morgan Oey, and Widika Sidmore. In a dark movie about two siblings whose mother just passed away. Just not in an unusual way she was found hanging from a tree just this family is not like most. So now they must go to their old village and attend their mother’s funeral. They arrive at a not-so-pleasant welcome from the villagers who believe she must be burned.

This not only puts the brother and sister in a spot to return to somewhere they do not wish to return. They are not wanted there and believe she is a witch. They want to leave as soon as they can before the Harvest Festival starts. Things do not go as they wish as something evil is lurking in the house and them. The evil starts to take hold of the daughter’s boyfriend and is after the son. Those who they speak with start to come up hanging from trees in the village.

There is a deep reason why things are transpiring in the way that they are. A deep evil stone deity that has ties to the land as well the family. Death and suffering are about to unleased on the family as the town is turning against them and the evil is taking the family one by one.

A very creepy film is an understatement the feel and vibe are dark and uneasy. The cinematography is fantastic and the use of the forest and village is unreal. I give this one a 7 out of 10 a good story but it did lack some depth to it and was a bit slow in getting to it. The look and feel of the film were spot on and adds to the vibe of the film. Overall a good watch to see the whole story unfold.
