Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

In the earlier era of Ultimatium, the environment definitely had impact at lest in lyrics-wise. You spend most of the days in or near forest and it was winter most of the year, so no wonder that the songs in New Dawn & Hwainoo had mostly winter themes on lyrics. Weā€™ve tried to keep that going on and we still use winter themes as flavour in the lyrics.

In writing music, the inspiration currently comes from itself: itā€™s fun to create songs and even more fun trying to make them complicated but yet try keep them catchy.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

Very early age, it was something like Queen, Ac/Dc, even little bit of punk. I grew up on quite small town so the musical awakening started when first real record store started there and my friendā€™s cousin bought Visions, by Stratovarius. That hit real hard and next ~five years or so I mostly listened to them and started also composing myself.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

Arjen Anthony Lucassen, he has done absolutely great career with Ayreon and Star One etc, and is big idol to me with his multi-vocalist albums. His works have had huge influence to our latest album, Virtuality. To a point I even emailed him for tips on recording with multiple vocalists and to my great surprise, he took the time to answer me

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

In our band, not all are full time musicians. I myself am a professional software developer, which suits nice as daytime job for musicians. At leasts fingers are kept busy when either tapping codes or notes

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?

Learn how to record music yourself. That saves you a lot of money which you can them invest to other parts of music industry, marketing for example.
