Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?

Part of my inspiration is where I grew up and the journey my life has taken me. I’ve returned back to the west coast of Ireland and I find it to be a great place for creativity and musical expression. The city of Galway where I live has a bustling music scene and I find this great for my own motivation and inspiration. Other sources of inspiration for me are discovering new music and going to live shows.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

Mostly metal and rock; the grunge scene in particular. There was plenty to keep me going for years in those! In recent times I’ve found myself branching out more and more into all types of genres and acts. With this debut record, The Noble Front, there are many different styles and genres on show and it’s a record that I feel encapsulates the type of person I am overall.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

As a frontman, I always loved James Hetfield. For a notoriously shy and modest human being, he can command the stage like no other. I always remember him saying in an interview that he still gets nervous about going on stage, but when he’s up there he’s just able to turn it on. Like flicking a switch. Other musicians I look up to a lot are Chris Cornell (greatest voice in the world), Jerry Cantrell (songwriter) and so many others.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

I’m actually a teacher! If I could have music as my full time job I’d be beyond chuffed. Until that day, teaching isn’t a bad gig.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?

ALWAYS create the music that you want to create, that you would want to listen to. If you try to be something you’re not, the listener will see right through it. Plus, if it never amounts to anything, at least you have a product that you can be proud of.
