January 19, 2024 —European indie electronic duo Close To Monday, made up of producer Alexander and singer/songwriter Ann, have continued to cultivate a devoted fan base with music that topped Deutsche Alternative Charts, won awards at international film festivals. Previous singles such as “Religion (Slevin Remix)” and “Lie” have attributed to their distinctive sound reminiscent of New Order and Boy Harsher, while still maintaining a unique musical identity that is unmistakably their own.

As they venture into 2024, Close To Monday unveils their latest single, “First Class,” coinciding with an exclusive feature on Uproxx’s ‘Favorite Hotel Stays In 2023’. “First Class,” presents listeners with an exciting musical journey into a world of dark storytelling and electronic synth magic. Departing from the four on the floor style arrangement heard in their previous two singles, “First Class” embraces a slower, pulsating cinematic feel. The composition explores the theme of a man ensnared in his ambition and thirst for material success, ultimately transforming into a metaphorical monster trapped in the gilded confines of first-class luxury on an airplane, showcasing their strength and diversity.

This particular music video is aimed to capture our raw emotions, emphasizing the interplay of sound, and the game of light and shadows. Maintaining a minimalist approach, the video was intentionally designed to ensure that nothing distracts the viewer from the melody and the pure essence of the sound. Upon viewing this video, the audience is invited to briefly immerse themselves in the world of Close to Monday, experiencing the atmosphere created by our music and visuals.
The music is a sensory experience, with swirling melodies intertwined with Ann’s mesmerizing vocals that take the listener into the atmosphere of mystery and intrigue. The lyrics unravel the tale of a hero entangled in the snares of his own ambitions, with complex, somewhat eerie synth arrangements amplifying the emotional twists and tragic facets of the character. Each note and melody serves as a poignant moment in the unfolding narrative, intentionally placed there by Close to Monday.
“As usual, every track we create is born from observation and experience, drawing inspiration from our own emotions and the world around us. Perhaps you’ve witnessed impeccably dressed individuals stepping into extravagantly expensive cars without a trace of happiness on their faces. Their opulence and coolness, far from being a sanctuary, are more like a self-imposed cage. They’ve willingly confined themselves, throwing away the key, making it impossible to unlock from within or without. It’s a genuine tragedy, and this track delves into that narrative.” – Close To Monday

Close to Monday music is a guide for people who are on a journey, exploring themselves or the surrounding world! Each of the band’s tracks communicate a ‘photo of feelings’ – a ready-made image, a situation reflecting their perception of things happening in the surrounding world and inside themselves, emotional experiences that are familiar to everyone. The band’s title was not chosen by chance. Their music transfers listeners into the last minutes of sleep before Monday comes, when serenity and joy begin to intertwine with the awareness of reality – but there is still time for wandering and reflection.
The band has also unveiled their new logo: inspired by the laconic sensuality of the Scandinavian runes, CTM chose the symbols ‘kenaz’ (strength), ‘teiwaz’ (success) and ‘dagaz’ (flow of time). Since ancient times, these runes have protected wanderers from evil, shielding them on their way, helping them to find strength in desperate times.
Close to Monday music is a journey – both from country to country, from one feeling to another.
