FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Boston Uprising announced today the hiring of a new assistant coach, Dennis “Barroi” Matz. Barroi, 27, most recently worked for the Toronto Defiant for two seasons.

Barroi’s path to the Overwatch League began when he created a statistics website called Winston’s Lab. Barroi studied computer science and devised systems to cull statistics from competitive Overwatch matches. His efforts provided players and coaches with data they previously did not have access to, which gradually changed how teams approached compositions and teamfights. Partially due to his work on Winston’s Lab, Barroi was hired as the Toronto Defiant’s analyst for the 2019 OWL season and became an assistant coach in 2020.

“Barroi’s knack for crunching numbers makes him an invaluable analytical asset, but he has also grown greatly as an Overwatch coach since he first joined the Defiant,” said Chris “HuK” Loranger, President of Gaming for the Uprising. “In my conversations with Barroi, he seems to be the hard worker and talented coach we’re looking for to round out our 2021 coaching staff.”

The Boston Uprising are currently constructing their roster for the 2021 Overwatch League season.
