V/H/S/ 99 Movie Review

I’m going to start off this review as not wanting to be “that guy” that says one thing, another thing and then spoils the premise of the movie. I like to give the viewer a taste of what they will experience when they see a movie. This isn’t one of those movies where you need just a taste; you will get addicted and devour every second of this movie. V/H/S 99 is a collection of stories compiled on a VHS style video tape that showcases horror on a different level. As a person who was a freshman in high school in 1999, I had a ton of nostalgia emptied to my senses.

We were able to review this movie as a screener for Shudder and I have to say that this is one of the best movies I’ve personally screened in years. I was hooked from the moment the movie started to the ending! I can’t pick a favorite part of the movie as each story brought its own horrific story to the screen. Oh yes, forgot to say this is Goreific as well! Either way, go down below the review, sign up for Shudder and watch the movie! You won’t be disappointed!

Here is the review:

Pro:

  • Stories
    • Each story in the movie was shocking, appalling and a few times I was laughing hard! I can’t pick a favorite one but I have to say the story where the kids are watching a hot neighbor that turned out to be Medusa. I was shocked when she turned one of the kids into stone, and I was laughing hard when the other kid called 911 to let them know a girl with snakes is attacking them. I enjoyed this movie so much!
  • FX Makeup
    • The FX makeup was done so well to the characters and monsters in the movie. You can think that person’s leg is broken or arm is ripped to shreds is so real and unique. I admit a few times I had to look at the wall when the blood was spattering and gave me an inch of stomach pain from the witness of gore. The FX team did an amazing job creating so much imagination through their art on the characters.
  • Creativity
    • The amount of creative imagination brought in this movie is just astonishing. I normally don’t jump at jump scare scenes but a few of them got me pretty good. The movie was so engaging with a unique form of horror that combined old school tactics and proper respect for the viewer that provided a very good horror movie.

Con:

None!

Rating: 10 out of 10
