LOS ANGELES (December 6, 2021) – Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group/Entertainment Studios, is proud to announce that it has secured global distribution rights for Delicate State and will release it on demand January 4, 2022. The critically acclaimed feature recently premiered at Dances with Films where it received the Audience Choice Award.

Additionally, Delicate State won the To.Get.Her Award toward finishing funds from The Chimaera Project, which champions films shining a spotlight on social change and empowering women and non-binary filmmakers. It also played at the St. Louis Film Festival where it was chosen as one of five films for The New Filmmaker’s Forum.

Shot over the course of their actual pregnancy with the leads doubling as a two-person crew, Paula (Paula Rhodes, “Resident Evil”) and Charlie (Charlie Bodin, “Good Trouble”) document their impending parenthood during a time of extreme political division. Their heads remain in the sand about the greater world around them until it upends their privileged life. Now they must navigate the loss of a loved one, the destruction of their home, and the ruins of the health care system at their, and their nation’s most vulnerable moment. Shot mostly in 2015 when such events seemed like pure fiction, Delicate State extended filming to document the ensuing nationwide protests, political conventions, uprisings and lockdowns as their original outline continued to spiral into reality.

The world stopped and watched, stunned, as a frenetic mob stormed the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021 and, perhaps, breathed a sigh of relief when things returned to “normal.” But what if that were not the outcome? What if things went… the other way? Delicate State blurs the line between truth and fiction, building to a startling climax and a conclusion that holds a hope-tinged mirror of accountability up to us all.

“In making Delicate State I had a few main goals,” stated director and star, Paula Rhodes, “to prove I could do it sans crew/script/while pregnant, perhaps inspiring others to go after their impossible-seeming goals, and to humanize what these calls for civil war could lead to if enough of us don’t responsibly engage. I’m so thankful for the team at Freestyle who feel the same. We can’t wait to share the film with the world in a time when it may be most needed.”

Additional cast includes Glenn Morshower (“The Resident”) (Glenn), Cathy Baron (“Justified”), Charles Halford (“Outer Banks”), Yuri Lowenthal (“Arcane”) and more.

Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal for global rights with Glen Reynolds at Circus Road Films.
