Moving to London to study at the London Institute of Contemporary Music Performance was a new lease of life for Kiev-born Delena, who, inspired by the likes of Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald, amongst others, began to develop her distinctive, sassy style of pop and find her place within music. Since then, it’s been a meteoric rise for the young singer-songwriter.

Previous releases ‘Nothing Can Stop Us Now’, ‘Animal’ ‘SOS’ and ‘Holy Ground’ have amassed over 900k plays on Spotify alone, with millions of views on YouTube. She has been regularly supported by the likes of Popjustice, Wonderland and Clash Magazine, and supported Shakespeare’s Sister on their 24 date UK tour before taking a brief hiatus during the Covid 19 pandemic.

A Ukrainian national, Delena has struggled with the devastating effects of the conflict in her home country, directly impacting her family & friends. Having spent many peaceful years in a relationship with a Russian partner, the relationship recently broke down, leaving Delena broken hearted, but with renewed passion for songwriting.

Taking inspiration from her recent breakup, the singer is back with brand new release Why Should I Love You, a song that channels the influence of her relation, screenwriter, film producer and director Alexander Dovzhenko. Its bluesy instrumentals and dramatic production could fit right into place as a Bond theme, ramping up the intrigue with a mid-track key change and outstanding vocals.

“This song came into my life at a time when everything seems to be upside down. My relationship broke down after 6 years, the war in my country continues and my friends and family are all scattered across the world. So, I dedicate this song to anyone with a broken heart. You will heal and you will love again”

Written alongside Jodie Brooke Wilson (Hear’Say, Louise,) Richard Darbyshire (Lisa Stansfield, Level 42, Jennifer Rush) and Frank Muscat, the track was recorded and produced in the UK by Toby Scott (Girls Aloud, Becky Hill, Little Mix, Ella Henderson.)
