Real-time dungeon generation roguelike action game ‘MISTROGUE: Mist and the Living Dungeons’ begins Early Access today

Polyscape Inc., located in Tokyo, Japan, launches a new roguelike action game with living dungeons that transform again and again before your own eyes. ‘Mistrogue: Mist and the Living Dungeons’ is currently available on Steam (Windows/Mac) in Early Access ($19.9/£16.50/€19.50). A launch trailer has also been released:

About Mistrogue
It is an ambitious project developed in roughly half a year by a team of six. Players can enjoy various play styles with controller support and Steam Deck compatibility. The Early Access version includes three dungeons and will allow players to play the story until the end in Japanese, English, and Chinese. The full release is planned for Autumn 2023. A port for the Nintendo Switch™ is also planned.
In “MISTROGUE: Mist and the Living Dungeons”, you will play as Mist, a treasure hunter who explores living dungeons using various skills and items. The terrain, footholds, monsters, traps, and everything inside the living dungeon may suddenly transform right before the explorers’ eyes, completely changing the situation in real time. Confront the living dungeons by developing your strongest skill build and utilising the ‘Maze Stones’ to create a path in your chosen spot, all while fighting against the relentless assault from monsters and gimmicks.

The ‘living dungeons’ will repeatedly respond to Mist’s actions and create gimmicks. For example, there may be platforms with enemies or treasure boxes on them that suddenly appear when you approach them, bridges that collapse once you cross them, a floor that moves in all directions, terrain that allows you to go up and down using elevations, etc. You may risk tumbling from the path in some places if you run with all your might, but you can use dodge to roll and go across the spot.

Due to the strange powers of the living dungeons, Mist’s level will reset every time he enters the dungeon. Therefore, if Mist is defeated amid exploration, some items and money obtained in that run will be lost. The dungeons’ structures constantly change, so players must not let their guard down during exploration.

You can use items and change equipment during a battle. Choose your equipment and spell books carefully, depending on the situation. However, items and skills have cooldown time, so you cannot use them continuously in succession. You can gather many enemies in one spot, stun them all at once with a spell book, or use knockback attacks to make enemies fall.

You can use the item ‘Maze Stone’ or special skills from specific equipment to create retreat paths or drop footholds along with the enemies on the footholds at your discretion. Freely utilize the unique puzzle aspects for clearing the maze.

Mist can equip four types of equipment: weapons, shields, bangles, and rings. Weapons, shields, and bangles have inherent skills. Effectively mix and match these to increase the synergy between skills multiple times. Using this feature, you can progress exploration with your own strongest builds to match their preferences or the enemies they are facing, such as an attacker-type build with critical rate raise to the limits, a thief-type build that specializes in ailments and agility, or a tank build that specializes in defence and healing.

While rings do not have any skill, they will raise specific parameters. Ring drops are random, so you must find the most suitable one to optimize.
