NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 1, 2023) – Fimone, Nashville’s Alternative Country/Rock artist, released her debut EP “The Fight In The Farmer’s Daughter”, a collection of songs written after finding her way to sobriety and making peace with the past. Now available on all streaming platforms, this chapter of their discography reflects Fimone’s songwriting roots with country music, while sonically expanding the landscape of the alt country and Americana spaces by working with Grammy award winning producer, Greg Magers (Umphrey’s McGee, J. Ivy, Lupe Fiasco).

Fimone grew up on a poor generational farm in rural Minnesota and fought hard to escape her small town by following her musical dreams. She taught herself guitar at a young age and after a move to Nashville, quickly discovered that her unfolding sexuality didn’t align with the country music industry’s expectations. Frustrated, Fimone embraced indie music, challenging the system. In this EP, her deep connection to her country roots has led Fimone to redefine the genre, deciding to represent her personal journey of country music.

The resulting songs tell stories of overcoming addiction (a too often common reality for those living in poverty), falling into abusive relationships, making personal discoveries about love and sexuality, and the saddening lengths some must go to put food on the table.

“‘The Fight in The Farmer’s Daughter’ was born out of my life experience and channeling generations of my ancestors. It taps into their strength and fortitude to survive for generations as poor rural farmers. In this EP, I carve out my own slice of country music, one with a narrative far beyond that of straight, cisgender, white men. There’s a place for the stories of the gay farmers’ daughters and alt country rebels. This EP came out of the passionate necessity to represent identities and stories too often overlooked,” says Fimone.

Produced by Grammy award-winning producer Greg Magers (Umphrey’s McGee, Maggie Rose, Lupe Fiasco and Grammy winning spoken word artist, J. Ivy.), “The Fight In The Farmer’s Daughter” is a journey through Fimone’s exploration of her ancestry and what it truly means to be a rural farmer’s daughter.

“Fimone is a gift to those lucky enough to be near her or get to know her art. Her unique perspective, fearlessness and love for life comes through in her songs. Every time,” says Magers.

Preview the lyrics for the new single off the EP, “China”:

I might leave if I could,

but where would I go now?

The only skills I’ve acquired,

I learned in a whorehouse.

You never asked me my name

I’m gonna tell it to ya anyway.

Sometimes if I don’t say it outloud

I’d forgot it by now.

See on the day I was born

Mama said I had a sparkle in my eye.

So she named me China,

finest money could buy.

As a wave-maker in the Nashville music scene, Fimone has earned critical acclaim for her previous singles and live performances. About Fimone

Born inside a lightning bolt, Fimone traveled to earth through an electric charge, striking the black soil of rural Minnesota. Born with a natural gift for writing songs, she began crafting her own original music at just 16-years-old. Fimone’s first Fender helped her weather the storm of emotions that came from growing up different in a small rural town. Emerging from her family double-wide like a hatchling pecking toward light, Fimone followed her dreams. In Nashville, TN, she developed a unique sound that blends elements of country, blues and rock in a fresh and unexpected manner.

She quickly found herself in a battle for her future with demons both in bourbon and human form; the three unable to be disentangled. Fimone manifested an intangible steel resilience and freed herself from her foes’ clutches. From there, her music has taken her across the United States and Europe, where she has toured and shared stages with some of the most respected names in the industry. Her live performances are powerful and emotive, showcasing her dynamic voice and thoughtful songwriting.

In addition to her work as a musician, Fimone is also a passionate advocate for social justice and equality. Her songs speak to the heart and soul of listeners, offering a unique perspective on the world around us. Fimone’s music often touches on important issues for underrepresented communities, and her passions for music and humanity are divinely inspired.
