Megan Dixon Hood is an independent artist taking inspiration from folklore, mythology, nature, and human beings. Exploring otherworldly and alternative genres, she immediately enchants the listener with her ethereal and ambient approach to songwriting. For fans of AURORA and Florence & The Machine, Megan effortlessly immerses you into her unique and electronically surged brand of storytelling, described as ‘forest pop’ with a modernised pop underbelly.

Many successes have come for Megan, with her music being synced for BBC One’s renowned programme ‘Ambulance’, receiving heavy support from BBC Introducing, being selected in a widespread project across the UK, as well as performing on Mark Radcliffe’s ‘Live From The Edge’ on Sky TV. Her live act has seen significant growth over time too, embarking on her first headline tour in 2020 before the pandemic, and now sees her second tour beginning in May of this year.

After two years of recording and working hard behind the scenes, the Macclesfield born and raised songstress is now here with her long awaited and highly anticipated debut album, ‘East of the Sun’. Lead single ‘Martyr’ is a simply spellbinding offering and fully embraces everything Megan Dixon Hood is as an artist to relate to and invest in.

Full of electronic textures and complex melodies, Megan immediately captivates with her vocal presence as the song builds and grows around her voice. From dark and brooding synths to real moments of peace and melancholy, her experimental nuances really make for a soulful, yet epic track that ebbs and flows with such clarity and guise.

She says that “‘Martyr’ is the final track on the album, inspired by history, and highlights the importance of our voices, of not being afraid to stand up for what we believe in and that when we come together we can change the world for the better.”

Reminiscent of early Rae Morris, Megan Dixon Hood transcends beyond the norm in ‘Martyr’, with other singles such as ‘The Garden’ making the album a statement record from Megan, and her unconventional yet eerily inviting way of presenting her sound is something that is truly resonating from that first second. This is a quality that is rare to come across in the modern day, but Megan Dixon Hood does so with ease, firmly placing her as one of the UK’s artists to watch in 2023.
