Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

If we are talking about the lyrics, we would say it is the imagination, but it could have not been uninfluenced by the surroundings. Nevertheless, in the past we have created lyrics that could fall under the category of storytelling, somewhat folkish nature. They never happened, instead it’s an imagination of how a particular story could have happened based on the situation in that period.

Music is the first written in almost every time we create, before the lyrics. It’s inspired by what we listen, however we’d rephrase something that was said by.. I think it was Maynard James Keenan from Tool “originality is when you already have so many influences that it’s muddled up and you can’t tell anymore, which the intermix of that becomes your signature sound, i.e. you create something that is based on a mix of them, resulting something that does not sound like any of them.” – and that is what we maintain.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

Growing up in Indonesia during the 90’s, almost all of us grew up during the era of Grunge and “BritPop invasion”, but me (Rivelino) listened to a lot of classical music and European traditional music, which have also been an inspiration to the band.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

Hard to tell who’s our “hero”, but talking as a band, we’d say the music of Radiohead and System of a Down have been inspiring us more than any others,

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

If we had not gotten into music, Rivelino probably would have become a scientist, Ekky would have pursued a teaching career abroad, Willy would still be teaching music, and Anink would have been pursuing career in some sort of NGO – he loves that.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?

Don’t stop, keep going even when it’s slow, you’d be surprised how much you’d have learned if you kept pushing.
