Fathom Events & Lionsgate Bring the original “The Hunger Games” Back to Theaters October 15 and 18

Return to District 12 this October as Fathom Events and Lionsgate present the 2012 epic “The Hunger Games” in theaters nationwide for a special two-night engagement on Sunday, October 15 and Wednesday, October 18.

In “The Hunger Games,” every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games.  A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.  Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy.  If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The film boasts a star-studded ensemble that includes Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Woody Harrelson (Haymitch Abernathy), Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket), Lenny Kravitz (Cinna), with Stanley Tucci (Caesar Flickerman) and Donald Sutherland (President Snow), along with Wes Bentley (Seneca Crane), Toby Jones (Claudius Templesmith), Alexander Ludwig (Cato), Isabelle Fuhrman (Clove), and Amandla Stenberg (Rue),  and an acclaimed soundtrack featuring music by Taylor Swift.

“There’s no better way to whet the appetite for The Hunger Games prequel than with the original Hunger Games,” said Kevin Grayson, Lionsgate’s president of domestic distribution. “We’re thrilled to be teaming with Fathom Events to give fans the opportunity to see The Hunger Games in theaters once again.”

On November 17, Lionsgate will release the prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Moviegoers will experience the story of The Hunger Games — 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute, and decades before Coriolanus Snow became the tyrannical President of Panem.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth), who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12. But after Lucy Gray’s charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.
