Los Angeles, CA – On-the-rise indie artist Dusty Durston has released the correlating music video for his latest single, “Valley Girls (Balisongs),” now available to stream on all digital platforms. Written as a heartfelt thank you note to Los Angeles – the city that gave Durston a second chance after fearing that his days as a musician might be over –  the ’90s rock-tinged track has been championed by Ones To Watch and American Songwriter. The video, directed by Carson Cockrell, was shot in and around Durston’s beloved Echo Park neighborhood.

Dusty Durston, like many others who migrate to L.A., eventually uncovered the city’s unique dynamic of winners and losers, beauty and ugliness, “jasmine and piss.” “Valley Girls (Balisongs)” celebrates the city’s paradoxes and how they always seem to lead people to where they need to be. “So many of us flock to L.A. with a shared dream, and then life does its thing and shows us something completely unexpected, different, and true,” Durston says. “And that’s really the reason I find it so fulfilling to live here. I’m lucky to be able to make art that attempts to capture that energy and celebrate it.”

The second single released by Dusty Durston in 2022, “Valley Girls (Balisongs)” follows Durston’s scruffy debut single, “de Sade.” Fueled by Stephen Malkmus-esque guitar and intentionally fragmented electronic noises, ala Odelay era Beck, “de sade” was championed by publications including Grimy Goods. Like “de Sade,” “Valley Girls (Balisongs)” reflects Durston’s journey of discovery and self-actualization, which you can join by following along on Instagram (@dustydurston).
