AUSTIN – Domain NORTHSIDE in North Austin is excited to announce a free, live concert with American rock and emo band Hawthorne Heights on March 31 at 7 p.m. Through the center’s innovative approach to bringing entertainment to the community, the concert will take place on the 30,000-square-foot rooftop mural before descending to street-level. Domain NORTHSIDE commissioned the mural last year as a creative way to program an otherwise unusable space.

“We can’t wait for Domain NORTHSIDE guests to experience Hawthorne’s Heights energy live from our rooftop and street stage,” said Alison Goodman, senior marketing director at Northwood Retail. “This will be the third concert that takes place on our custom, one-of-a-kind rooftop mural, visible from Google Earth. Each show gets bigger and better, and having a band like Hawthorne Heights perform on the rooftop is a dream come true.”

Hawthorne Heights is an American rock and emo band composed of JT Woodruff on lead vocals and guitar, Mark McMillon on guitar and backing vocals, Matt Ridenour on bass and backing vocals, and Chris Popadak playing the drums. Throughout their long and storied career as one of the most iconic emo acts of the new millennium, Hawthorne Heights has overcome many obstacles and garnered success along the way, earning two Gold albums, one for 2004’s “The Silence In Black And White” and one for 2006’s  “If Only You Were Lonely,” and penning some of the genre’s most well-known songs including “Ohio Is For Lovers” and “Saying Sorry.” The band remains a hard-touring act nearly two decades after forming in Dayton, Ohio.

“Austin is one of our favorite cities in the world,” said Woodruff. “The energy, vibe and people are some of the most unique that this world has to offer. We can’t wait to be back in town screaming emo music from this incredibly cool venue. I know the fans are going to be treated to a wonderful blend of music and art. We are stoked!”

Hawthorne Heights will begin their performance on the custom art installation located on the rooftop off Rock Rose Avenue – above Perry’s Steakhouse – which will be live streamed to the audience waiting below at the stage located on Domain Boulevard. The band will then descend from the rooftop and join the crowd on the street to continue the show. The free event will feature streetside pop-up bars, yard games and photo opportunities. The concert will also be live-streamed through Domain NORTHSIDE’s YouTube Channel for fans who cannot attend the in-person performance.

Designed by Ignacio Garcia, Domain NORTHSIDE’s enormous rooftop mural can be seen from nearby buildings and often catches the eye of travelers flying in and out of Austin. The piece represents some of the most celebrated elements in Austin and Texas including a portrait of Willie Nelson, blue bonnets, bats and a longhorn, and is one of the largest murals in the city to date.

Doors for the show open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

About Hawthorne Heights

Hawthorne Heights is composed of JT Woodruff (Vocals, Guitar), Mark McMillon (Guitar, Backing Vocals), Matt Ridenour (Bass, Backing Vocals), Chris Popadak (Drums). Throughout their long and storied career as one of the most iconic emo acts of the new millennium, the quartet have overcome obstacles at every turn – but these roadblocks always seemed to come from external forces, from unscrupulous record labels and the shifting whims of fickle audiences to unimaginable personal tragedy threatening to derail them. Despite the odds, Hawthorne Heights have overcome it all: earning two Gold albums (2004’sThe Silence In Black And White and 2006’sI f Only You Were Lonely), penning some of the genre’s most well-known songs (“Ohio Is For Lovers,” “Saying Sorry”), and remaining a hard-touring act nearly two decades after forming in Dayton, Ohio.
