I have always been fascinated by dinosaurs since I was a young child. I would see dinosaurs portrayed on television, movies, and read books about them at my local library. With the partnership of Imagine Exhibitions and Shops at Rivercenter, dinosaurs will the forefront in San Antonio starting March 10! Dino Safari takes San Antonio back in time with dinosaurs!

What is Dino Safari?

From World-Renowned Ph.D. Dinosaur Paleontologist Gregory M. Erickson had to say:

This is an exhibition from Imagine that explores the diversity of dinosaurs around the world. The whole point is dinosaurs are found on every single continent, so no matter where you from, dinosaurs lived there! This exhibition explains why that is and along the way people learn about all kinds of new dinosaurs some they never seen before. There is a new dinosaur species named every week, so you can imagine we have plenty to work with. People will see some traditional ones like velociraptor while seeing ones that they never heard of before. We put into a lot of detail to make them look realistic as many of the meat eating dinosaurs were essential covered in feathers. We did that here to give dinosaurs a modern look at what dinosaurs really look like.

We were invited out to the media day for Dino Safari! As excited as I was, my children were more excited. The fascination of dinosaurs got passed down to them as well. As we journeyed to The Shops at Rivercenter in the heart of downtown San Antonio, we discussed with each other what we thought we would see inside the exhibit. Once there, we signed in and were allowed to go in!

What We Saw

When we first entered in, we heard various roars and shadows moving around on the walls. This would startle my children to the point we all were holding hands as we entered more of the area. We noticed a film playing when we first got in there and this was a brief explanation of the dinosaurs, the exhibit and their location on Earth.

With this explanation, this helped us understand more of the placement of dinosaurs in the exhibit and how they looked during that time. Many of the dinosaurs were animatronic and moved on a set sequence. You feel like they are going to jump right at you at an instant.

On the walls of each room, you see various information of each exhibit. This includes the area the dinosaur is from as well as fun facts of the dinosaurs! Also, there are various spots for children such as coloring area, sand area for fossils, and more. As we drew closer to the end of the tour, we learned a lot about dinosaurs and how much of an impact they were on our planet. They were all over the place, many we didn’t know existed on different continents, and much more. A lot of new discovery on our part of various dinosaur species on this planet in various continents. Our minds were blown!

At the end of the tour is the gift shop and you find some real nice goodies for you and your family for an affordable price.

We were able to talk a little bit with World-Renowned Ph.D Dinosaur Paleontologist Gregory M. Erickson and Producer at Dino Safari  at Imagine Exhibitions Victoria Riberio while we were there. We asked them various questions of Dino Safari but one question had caught my eye.

We asked: What do you want people to feel or experience when they come to Dino Safari?

What World-Renowned Ph.D. Dinosaur Paleontologist Gregory M. Erickson had to say:

I’m an educator, I’m a professor but also given the field that I’m in, I talk to 8-12 audiences all the time. Children seemed to be very interested in dinosaurs that carries over to adults too. I think when anyone comes through here will enjoy the dinosaurs and feel like they amongst real animals. They are full size and roaring the whole bit, but they will learn something along the way. Just slow down and read one of those placards, your going to learn something about science, geology, and all kinds of biological concepts. There is something for here for everybody!

What Producer at Dino Safari at Imagine Exhibitions Victoria Riberio had to say:

There is a lot of surprise and delight for kids on every turn in there and adults too!
