The Ultimate Test Against the Elements Await in New Game that Features the Real-World Hazards, Challenges, and Thrills of Mountain Climbing

BERLIN, GERMANY (April 29, 2021) — Insurmountable, the mountain-climbing adventure roguelike game developed by Berlin-based studio ByteRockers’ Games, is now available on Steam for Windows PC. Unlike other roguelikes that rely on explosive gameplay and battles, Insurmountable relies on tactical decision-making, strategic resource management, and a desperate fight for survival with mother nature. Each trek up the mountainside is different — forcing players to make decisions again and again in order to survive. If they fail, they start again at the bottom of a new mountain with new events and challenges without items, skills and XP.

Insurmountable may not be entirely what its title suggests, though, it’s an arduous climb all the same. Players have to conquer a total of three deadly mountains in a row to complete a run, and the difficulty level increases dramatically with each mountain. Depending on which of the three available characters — adventurer, scientist, or journalist — starts the run, different skills influence the strategic decisions and optimal route choice. Dynamic weather, various terrains, and a day-night cycle ensures that danger lurks around every corner, not to mention the added threat of a lack of oxygen or energy, dwindling mental health, and even aggressive animals!

Insurmountable‘s realistic implementation of the dangers of mountain climbing was praised by mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner — Guinness Book of Records holder for such “World’s Firsts” feats as the first solo summit of Mount Everest, and separately, the first ascent of Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen. In the Twitch live talk “Truth or Myth”, Messner stated: “The game is very similar to the real challenge of climbing a mountain.” He added, “[On the mountain] I greet with ‘Kalipé.’ That’s Tibetan for ‘always steady feet,’ and that’s important in this game, too. Always steady feet!”

Key Features:

  • Breathtaking sights that soothe the soul despite the challenging survival elements
  • Normal, Hard, and Insurmountable difficulty levels
  • Three different characters with different skills: adventurer, scientist, and journalist
  • High replay value thanks to procedural generation, ensuring each mountaintop is distinct from the last
  • Dynamic weather, different terrains, a day-night cycle, wildlife, and text-based events provide further variety
  • Challenging decisions that require tactical skills

Insurmountable is available now for Windows PC on Steam with a launch discount price of €17.99 / $17.99 USD / £17.99 until May 5, 2021. Starting May 6, 2021, the standard price will be €19.99 / $19.99 / £19.99. Fans can purchase Insurmountable here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1385100/Insurmountable.
