Icelandic singer-songwriter Arny Margret today announced that she’ll be performing next month at SXSW in support of her 2023 EP, dinner alone (One Little Independent Records), including shows at Paste Magazine’s East Austin Block Party, KCRW’s School Night Showcase, and more. Following SXSW, Margret will embark on an east coast U.S. tour supporting Julian Lage, which sees stops at New York’s Town Hall (3/22) and Washington DC’s Lincoln Theatre (3/30). A full itinerary including SXSW set times can be found below.

Margret has also shared a live video of the EP’s title track from her striking performance at 2023’s Iceland Airwaves; watch it HERE. dinner alone has earned Margret three nominations at this year’s Icelandic Music Awards for Album of the Year, Performer of the Year, and Music Video of the Year. The EP and its singles “waiting” and “i went outside” arrived to praise and support from The FADER (Essential New Releases), FLOOD Magazine (FLOOD Session), Brooklyn Vegan, Bluegrass Situation (premiere), No Depression (“What We’re Listening To”), and more. Stream it at all DSPs HERE.

dinner alone is a compelling statement of confidence and clarity, an affecting collection of songs that cements Margret’s place as one of Iceland’s most promising new voices. Over her still nascent career, she’s constructed an incredible ability to pen vivid narratives through an earnest, vulnerable lens. Her introspective style is characterized by a heartfelt and personal approach–now 22 years old, these strengths are sharper than ever. The follow-up to her 2022 debut LP, they only talk about the weather, the EP’s four new originals see Margret further developing her skills as a songwriter and storyteller as she finds comfort and certainty in complete candor. Her rich, intimate arrangements here reach new heights, allowing her to delve further into themes of self-reflection and existentialism.

Since the release of her debut LP, Margret’s been making waves not only in Iceland, but also across Europe and the U.S., where she has toured extensively, supporting acts such as Blake Mills, Leif Vollebekk, Ásgeir, and Passenger, among others, as well as performed at SXSW, The Great Escape, Newport Folk Festival, Reykjavik Calling, and Iceland Airwaves. In 2022, she won Best New Act at the Iceland Airwaves Plus Awards, and was nominated for Newcomer of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards. In 2023, Margret won Song of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards, where she was also nominated for Album and Video of the Year, and was nominated for Newcomer of the Year at the Icelandic People’s Choice Awards. In 2024, she was nominated at the Music Moves Europe Awards for Public Choice. She’s been championed by the likes of KEXP (making a live session debut), Rolling Stone U.K., NME, The Line Of Best Fit, The Independent, Clash Magazine and many more.
