ATLANTA – JANUARY 15 – After an incredible weekend of intense esports and community celebration in Esports Stadium Arlington, Texas, the Season X SMITE World Championship culminated with the Jade Dragons lifting Thor’s Hammer after one of the craziest run ever!
After achieving a harrowing victory 3-2 in semifinals against the Styx Ferrymen, the Jade Dragons squad was to face the Oni Warriors during the grand finals. And that was a scary perspective—the Warriors were absolutely on top of their game, unbeaten and untouched during the entire final phase as they strolled right up to the grand finals (2-0; 3-0).
The Dragons put an end to that streak, instantly taking the lead and even reaching 2-0 before the Oni Warriors fought back to 2-2. During the last match of these fierce grand finals, the Jade Dragons chose to pick Pele although the volcanic Assassin was supposedly countered by Ymir, the Frost Giant, and the Babylonian Warrior Gilgamesh. Yet that decision ultimately proved visionary. Pele, played by LASBRA, was at the inception of game-changing moves that ultimately led to the Dragons’ victory in late game after no less than 32 minutes of fighting that kept everyone on the edge of their seats!
