Cologne, August 17, 2023: With 100 experts from Germany and abroad, the gamescom congress on August 24 is the leading conference on the social, economic and technological potential of computer games in Europe. 50 talks, workshops and panels will reveal the numerous ways in which games and game technology can contribute to the world of tomorrow. The gamescom congress invites professionals from different business sectors as well as culture, education, politics and sciences to further their knowledge and exchange new ideas. The conference offers a unique opportunity to discover the wide range of opportunities offered by games. Tickets have sold out quickly in previous years. Around 800 guests on site in Cologne and more than 140,000 users in the live stream attended the congress last year. The gamescom congress is held at Congress-Centrum Nord on the Koelnmesse fairgrounds on August 24, 2023 and features inspiring talks and exciting panels. The program is divided into three categories: Games & Education, Games & Business and Games & Society. The congress will be opened by Sarah Brin, Head of Product and Growth at Kythera AI from Edinburgh. Her keynote “Can AI be Creative?” gives insights into the creative potential of artificial intelligence. This year’s highlights include, for example:

“Debatt(l)e Royale”
Top politicians face questions from the gaming community and address the most important matters around digital politics. On the podium: Franziska Giffey (SPD), Nathanael Liminski (CDU), Emily Büning (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) and Bijan Djir-Sarai (FDP). Everyone can submit questions in advance via #DebattleRoyale and #gcc23 and participate in the live chat during the talk. The debate will be held on site in Cologne from 17:00 and broadcast on www.gamescom-congress.com.

Panel “Spillover effects of games and gaming tech into other industries”
What video games can offer other to industries will be discussed by Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Lars Janssen, Plaion, Linda Kruse, The Good Evil, and Iris Plöger, Member of the Executive Board at the Federation of German Industries (BDI).

“Youth Protection Panel” by USK
Lisa Paus, Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, Thomas Kowollik, Vice President, Consumer Sales Organization EMEA at Microsoft, Muriel Maruschka, Youth Editor at Spieleratgeber-NRW, and Lorenzo von Petersdorff, Deputy Managing Director at USK, will discuss the requirements for modern youth protection.
