(Nashville, TN): Rock duo Sleep Nation releases new single and music video for “Crybaby.” The single is now available on all digital streaming platforms!

The hot rock duo Sleep Nation is back with another headbanging jam titled, “Crybaby.” Dedicated to lead singer Bran Merritt’s late cat, “Crybaby” tells the story and feelings behind the night the cat visited him in a dream. The song opens with Merritt’s enticing guitar riff as drummer Joey Lauretta drives the song with a steady, addicting beat. Instrumental texture diminishes and the spotlight shifts to Merritt’s lyrics in which he pleads, “Crybaby, tell me another joke.” That familiar feeling of longing for one more moment with your pet is accentuated by Merritt’s strong, passionate vocals. When the group reaches the chorus, Merritt’s existential lyrics, “Will I remember now/I’m a ok?”, are interrupted by stand-alone powerchord strokes which build intensity and emotion.

The music video for “Crybaby” is a perfect storyboard following the tale Merritt shares with us.  The first few lyrics spoken by Merritt were “I’M TRIPPING I CAN’T BE TRIPPING YOU I MUST BE TRIPPING TODAY.” The video is engaging to the viewer with pop-inspired dramatic lighting as the scene switches from the performance to the “B-Roll” of various people dressed as cats. They make use of dramatic camera movements like zooming in and out and also using an occasional fisheye lens. These lights and camera choices make the watcher feel as though they are in a dream state with Sleep Nation.

Alternative-rock duo Sleep Nation consists of lead vocalist Bran Merritt and drummer Joey Lauretta. They have opened for national touring acts such as Adema and Sponge. Because they always give their all for their live shows, they’ve come to be known as the “Out of Control Rock ‘N’ Roll Duo.”

In 2014, the duo’s music video and single release for “I Want You Back” landed the band a spot on Nashville radio station 102.9 The Buzz’s “Local Buzz Top 25.” Sunset Island Music ranked Sleep Nation #2 among the Top 25 Unsigned Bands around the world. In 2015, the pair’s second official music video “Mr. Unlucky” was released in promotion of the film “Hair of the Dog,” directed by Michael Butts. They also wrote “I’m a Werewolf, But That’s Ok” for the movie’s soundtrack. In 2016, the band celebrated the release of their self-titled debut album. The single “Slip” became the album’s second track to be named 102.9 The Buzz’s “Local Buzz Cut of the Week.” 2018 saw the arrival of singles “Scream & Shout” and “American Way” via Victory Music Buzz. Their single “SPACEman” featured Daisy Dead from the Dead Deads.
