WWE 2K23 Xbox Series S Review

WWE 2K23 Xbox Series S Review

WWE 2K23 is the latest game in WWE’s repertoire 2K series. The game boasts as being the best 2K game ever on social media to fans and gamers alike. Well, once the opportunity to play the game came out, I jumped at that occasion to try out this so called “best 2K wrestling game ever”!

I was able to try WWE 2K23 on my Xbox Series S during Xbox Free Plays days. I was able to download the game pretty quickly as it was only needed 64 GB of space. In my honest opinion, the graphics, deep roster and John Cena’s Showcase were superb in this edition of WWE 2K. I was blown away by the graphics when I would have my matches. As a big history buff, I enjoyed the Showcase and able to go through John Cena’s biggest loses that helped shaped his career. While that had my attention, briefly, I was quite disappointed on a few things. The learning of the moves and use of controls in the game were difficult. To the point of frustration, the game just didn’t seem fun anymore. I was able to play for a few hours on my Xbox Series S and stream on Twitch and Tiktok. Final say, game has a good package around it, but I wish they worked more to simplify the controls and move set for the gamers playing the game.

Our Thoughts

Pro:

  • Graphics
    • The graphics in this game was so damn intense and spectacular. I felt like I was at an actual Smackdown event or PPV where everything was so bright and vibrant. With my 4K television, the matches looked so great on there. The definition of the wrestlers were show in massive detail for the viewer in the game. The team at 2K Games did an amazing with creating this game for all wrestling fans.
  • Showcase
    • The Showcase is pretty damn cool and enjoyed playing the wrestlers that defeated John Cena. As a big fan of history, I enjoyed battling John Cena at his pivotal moments in his career. I didn’t enjoy trying to “mimic” his matches during those objectives part of Showcase, but overall, I had so much fun watching the video content of John Cena during that time.
  • Deep Roster
    • There are so many wrestlers to choose from to start off your matches. Even prior to the DLC updates, you had a decent pick of wrestlers to play in the game. I, of course, chose our Tribal Chief Roman Reigns to take into battles during wrestling matches.

Con:

  • Move set
    • The move set in the game gets very confusing as I felt that I need a 3 ring binder filled with different combinations for each wrestler. I was so confused by all the different buttons needed to fulfil moves for a wrestler. I know there are tons of moves for wrestlers, but it was just so overbearing. I pushed the buttons to do a certain move only for another move to be done.
  • Looses Fun Appeal Fast
    • After a few matches, It just doesn’t feel fun anymore. With the situation I had with the move set, I just didn’t want to continue playing the game. I was bored after about an hour and had no more of a desire to continue to play this game.
  • Controls
    • The controls for the game wasn’t as smooth as I was hoping for. The control of the wrestling felt very delicate to the touch when your in a match. One small move of the wrestler would create an impact of something so different than actually planned to do in the match. This along with the move set, was just so frustrating in this game.

Rating: 7 out of 10
