WandaVision Episode 1&2

Well as I’m pretty sure you know that tonight was the world premiere of Wandavision, However before I go on be aware there will be spoilers so, if you haven’t seen the show stop reading and I urge you to go check it out but, for those of you who have watched it or just want to read about my thoughts lets carry on shall we? Let me start by saying when I first started watching Wandavision I got very nostalgic for a mix of ’50s and 60’s tv shows mainly I love Lucy and Bewitched with a mix of modern-day and classic comedy elements with a very strange underlying mystery.

Episode one:

I found was more of a comedy showing how they are trying to adjust to life in the suburbs as well as trying to be a normal couple. However not is as it seems, first the random infomercial about a toaster, but hear me out did anyone find it strange that the whole commercial was in black and white but when it shows the toaster power up and start toasting the bread you can hear Ironmans repulser power up and the light turns on and it is glowing red and is made by you guessed it Stark Industries, odd right?

Another thing I noticed it seems threw out the episode disguised as a comedy bit are the uncertainty of dates shared by both Wanda and Vision starting with the heart on the calendar, Wanda was trying to make Vis tell her what it was and it seems like he was deflecting her question as if he was trying to see if she knew what that day was. As the day progresses Wanda and her friend are trying to figure out what today was and when the word anniversary is brought up it’s as if Wanda finally snaps like she was filling in a blank she couldn’t remember.

Now Vision when at work seems to be doing great at his job and maybe looking to get a promotion, and when he saw his boss something in his mind clicks as well that the date he and Wanda were trying to figure out was really a dinner date he had set up between his boss and wife. When Vision arrives home with Mr. and Mrs. Hart in tow, he introduces them to Wanda and tries to keep them entrained while Wanda tries to whip up dinner, However, I did notice something that couldn’t be ignored, he keeps pressing both of them to explain when they married and why they moved to town.

“Why did you come here?” he bellows, but Wanda and Vision can’t answer, staring into the middle distance as if put into a trance. And then things get freaky. Mr. Hart begins to choke, and for the first time, the camera breaks from its sitcom staging and cuts closer to the action. The effect is unnerving, especially after Mrs. Hart keeps repeating “Stop it!” with an increasingly terrified grin while Mr. Hart falls to the floor and Vision and Wanda do nothing. Finally, Wanda looks at Vision and says, almost with resignation, “Vision, help him.” So Vision uses his powers to reach inside Mr. Hart’s neck and pull out the obstruction.

And just like that, things go back to normal. The Harts make a hasty exit, never once commenting or even acknowledging Vision’s abilities. Even stranger, after a moment of confusion, Wanda and Vision don’t seem to register the event happened either leaving you with the question “what is going on?’ and to make things stranger the show ends with a slow pan of Vision and Wanda and zoom out to reveal a someone is watching them and taking notes.

Episode 2:

The Episode begins with Wanda and Vision in their separate twin beds, shaken out of slumber by a weird noise outside their bedroom. While it shakes both of them up, the good news is that it turns out that it was only just a branch and that because in the heat of the moment Wanda was inspired to shove their beds together, for some materials. The new opening credits are a very Bewitched-Esque animated sequence (no real lyrics of note beyond “Wa-Wa-WandaVision!” And then it’s time for the meat of the episode, as Wanda and Vision rehearse their act for the town’s talent show fundraiser magic tricks that don’t rely on their actual powers, because as Wanda tells Vision, “in a real magic act, everything is fake.”

Rehearsal ends with Wanda leaving to go to the planning committee meeting for the fundraiser, and Vision wants to check out the local Neighborhood Watch meeting at the local library. But before then, Wanda hears a buzzing outside and discovers that a toy helicopter has landed in her bushes one with a very familiar color scheme, what that is hinting at I’m not sure but I hope its something to do with the return of Tony Stark that may be reaching but in a way its pretty creepy.

Before heading to the meaning Agnes warns Wanda that Dottie is “queen of the cul de sac” and so getting on her good side is essential for Wanda’s future success in the neighborhood. But the planning committee meeting doesn’t go great, despite Wanda making a new friend with Geraldine Wanda does her best, but is awfully awkward with the other girls. As Wanda helps with the cleanup for the meeting, things take a weird turn after Wanda says that she and Vision mean no harm, and Dottie says “I don’t believe you,” and then the clock radio nearby shifts from the song “Help Me Rhonda” to a male voice saying “Who’s doing this to you Wanda?” and the world feels like it’s falling apart… Dottie’s glass breaks, the blood shines bright red, and the laugh track returns to normal. And then it’s time for another odd commercial break! featuring a very nice swiss made watch that has the Hydra symbol on it and just as quickly as it started it finishes.

Vision does somewhat better at the Neighborhood Watch meeting, well socially, managing to have a good chat with his fellow men of the neighborhood. But despite normally rejecting any offer of food, he does try chewing a stick of Big Red gum and accidentally swallows it. The result for a synthetic creation like him is basically like chugging a bottle of whiskey, and shows up for the talent show barely able to stand. He does not, however, lose his super-abilities, so when he powers through the magic act by using his powers, Wanda quickly covers for him by using her own skills to make his real magic seem fake. And… it works! Wanda and Vision are the hit of the day, winning the Comedy Performance of the Year Award and taking a bow. “It wasn’t so hard to fit in after all,” Wanda declares as she and Vision cuddle on the couch, but when she gets up she suddenly discovers that all of that talk about “for the children” might have had an unexpected effect… because she’s now noticeably pregnant. And also there’s a strange man in a beekeeper outfit crawling out of the sewer hole outside her house, with a prominent logo on the back of his jumpsuit Until Wanda says “no” and he isn’t anymore. Instead, it somehow rewinds to a newly pregnant Wanda and Vision happy together in their home happy, in fact so happy, that the world turns to color around them. What could it mean and what is the significance of the color red? And how will this fit into the MCU only time will tell.

So let me know what you think what are some of the theories you have.
