“Bottom Line”, the second single from the new Arms & Hearts record “The Future is Not Bright” to be released October 10th through Thousand Islands Records (Canada), Mt Crushmore Records (US), Never Meant Records (IE) and UTB Manchester (UK)/ Video – Clay Henry Films Music – Produced by Sam Cook

After realizing that The Steve Miller band was already taken, Manchester, UK-based Steven Millar started Arms & Hearts as an acoustic project in 2015. Since then they’ve released their debut album ‘The Distance Between,’ and toured the world, playing alongside the likes of Carl Barat, Nervus & Chris Farren as well as playing at major festivals such as Fest (Gainsville, USA) Pouzza (Canada) & Manchester Punk Festival and are now back as a two piece with Sam Johnson (Drums).

Infused with sparkly synths and chorus effect-laden guitars, and taking inspiration from artists like Spanish Love Songs, Turnover & Chris Farren, Arms & Hearts creates a sound that is both nostalgically resonant and refreshingly modern.

Of the new single, Millar says, “Bottom Line is about the realisation we spend the majority of our limited time on earth working jobs that generally do nothing to improve the human experience and only to make money for people who already have too much money,” explains Millar about the song. “Cheery isn’t it? It does have a pretty good guitar solo, though, if I do say so myself.”

Millar adds, “Releasing music is honest-to-god terrifying, especially in the year 2024. It’s a huge risk we’ve made, even with the help from the wonderful people running Thousand Islands Records / Mt Crushmore Records/ Never Meant / UTB Manchester it’s still a risk.

I hope you can forgive the oversharing or the sincerity. I don’t think we have it in us to do some TikTok dances, be content creators or be cold ruthless capitalists (I think this is how you do “well” these days). We just want to write and perform songs that we are proud of, that say something important to us, in our little corner, on our own terms. Which is exactly what we have done with this record.

Over 3 years, I wrote a collection of songs that I didn’t think would ever see the light of day – a complete change from the Folk-Punk beginning that was Arms & Hearts. One day I realised that I truly believed in a lot of these songs. I then spent a year in the studio with the incredible Sam Cook Producer making this record, crafting each song, there was no “this take will do” or “this is as good as it’s going to get”. We did not compromise and we did not stop until we were sure it was done. Creating this record almost broke me, but I am so happy and proud of what we made.

I wrote this album about trying to find optimism in a cultural climate that demands cynicism and misery. Something that I believe grows more important every day.

If you want to help, and LPs are your thing, please consider pre-ordering the record. It would genuinely mean the world to us. You can do so at thefutureisnotbright.com.”
