Them Amazon Prime Video Review

Them Amazon Prime Video Review

I was able to see a tv show recently on Prime Video that showcased a display of real talk with racism, horror, and psychological terror. All in one show! Them is a new show on Prime Video showcasing an African American family relocating to 1950’s California when it was still an all white neighborhood. You watch as the family undergoes horror through the racism they encounter as well as the horror encountered in their haunted home. All this terror has done some damage to their minds and instead brings about a new view of terror they will influence their decisions throughout the series.

A phenomenal show on Prime Video that everyone should watch and see! I don’t want to spoil much as this show is pretty damn good! I provided a short review below but I highly recommend fans to check out this show and watch the terror the family encounters on all sides of their lives.

Here is the review:

Pro:

  • Story
    • This story is based off of various true stories from 1950’s that have happened to African American families that relocated from the South to the West. You saw how the family is treated in their new neighborhood but also learn that their new home is haunted. While this is going on, you watch as the haunting is aggravated through the horror the family experiences with their neighbors, co workers and classmates. You find out what happens with a family member they had before that didn’t make it to the new home and how it left a lasting impression on the family.
  • Racism in 50’s
    • After WW2, our heroes in the military that are African Americans aren’t getting the same celebrations like the others. This showed how the father is treated after leaving the military and trying to secure opportunities for his families future. You see how he is treated even though this man has saved his team members in various fights. Then, you watch how neighbors react to the family as they moved into the neighborhood. A real deal where at times, it is still being done even today in our communities.
  • Haunted Home
    • When the family was inside the home and the daughter was seeing that spirit, that was pretty scary. Then the family’s pet is killed in the basement where a lot of the terror is happening will get the hair behind your head to stand up. In the later episodes, you will see why the basement area is very integral to the horror of the story and it caught me off guard. A very unique story on that end!
  • Traumatized Horror
    • Many don’t see how being ugly towards a certain person can not only being traumatizing but also become someone’s horror story. We see horror as something that ignites fear to the point we are scared to stay in a room in the evening after hearing a strange noise. Them showcased a different view how being treated as a person can ignite fears that mimic being in a horror movie. You can feel their fear whenever they are going to go to a class, go to work, or even go outside to get the daily paper. A unique way to see the horror someone gets whenever someone becomes a demon towards them.
