The Tobin Center Announces Bexar County Arts Internship Grant Recipients

(San Antonio, TX) –GenerationNEXT of The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts is pleased to announce the grant recipients for the 2021 Bexar County Arts Internship Program for nonprofit arts organizations located in Bexar County:

  • The Children’s Chorus of San Antonio
  • The Classic Theatre of San Antonio
  • Gemini Ink
  • Magik Theatre
  • SAY Sí
  • Texas Public Radio
  • Youth Orchestra of San Antonio
  • Conjunto Heritage Taller
  • Woodlawn Theatre
  • URBAN-15

Each of the ten selected organizations will receive funds to provide one paid internship to an undergraduate student to assist the organization with seasonal or special projects in the summer of 2021.  The grant provides $3500 to each organization for a ten-week internship beginning June 7, 2021, through August 13, 2021.

“Thank you to the Tobin Center for their investment in our internship program. This will cultivate the arts program in Bexar County and provide numerous opportunities for future artists,” says Judge Nelson Wolff.

Potential interns do not have to have demonstrated a focus in the arts to apply.  They only need at least one semester of community college, college, or university coursework completed, be currently enrolled and attending classes, and not have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher before June 1, 2021.  They must also be residents of Bexar County, though they can attend schools outside of the county.  Applications are available on the organizations’ websites.  You can also find links to each intern posting on The Tobin Center website.

“The Bexar County Arts Internship program is connecting new eyes and motivation with our local arts organizations.  More than an extra set of hands, interns bring innovation, fresh ways to approach situations, and connections to other fields.  In return, these young people will apply skills they have learned in the classroom in real-world scenarios, gain firsthand industry perspectives, and have valuable work experiences.  The magic of this program is that both parties benefit!  The County is impacting both local artists and local students in positive ways,” says Dr. Kimberly Stephenson, Tobin Center Director of Education
