The Thing: Remastered Xbox Series S Review

You are Cpt J.F. Blake, leader of a U.S. Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the blood-curdling events and enigmatic deaths of the American scientific team that transpired at the Outpost 31 research facility located in the frozen wastelands of Antarctica. Within these inhospitable surroundings your team encounters a strange shape-shifting alien life-form that assumes the appearance of people that it kills. Trapped by the elements and infected by this horrific entity, using all your team members is critical if you hope to accomplish your objectives, let alone survive. If you only knew which ones were still human…

We were able to get a review key of The Thing: Remastered for my Xbox Series S console. I was able to download the game quickly on my console as the space needed wasn’t too large. Once done, I was able to start up The Thing: Remastered on my console. You are met with story about a situation resulting a lot of lost lives on a research facility. The enemy is unknown and you must go out there to figure out what had happened and what the scientists had learned. I arrive with my team to look around the abandoned area to figure out what had happened there. I was able to get the lights in the first room to work and decided to start looking for clues. The story of the game is like the movie I remember watching when I was younger. You and your team look for clues of an abandoned research facility and what had killed the scientists. Once you uncover more of the clues, you start to meet some of the gruesome carnage left behind in various rooms.

I also enjoyed learning more of my team and what they can do for me throughout the game. My engineer is able to fix things that I’m not able to do and also my medical doctor is able to patch me up as well. I can decide to have them follow me as a group as well as hand them items such as weapons. I didn’t enjoy the graphics as I felt it could have been upgraded in this remastered edition of the game. I felt like I was playing in the original game, which is fine, but was hoping for a better look of the game on my 4K television and next gen console. Either way, a delicious horror game for any fan of the genre.

Gameplay:

Pro:

  • Movie Storyline
    • Very similar to the story line of the movie when I did enjoy watching when I was younger. You and your team head out to a research facility to figure out what had happened to the scientists there.
  • Teamwork
    • I liked how each team member was responsibly for something such as medical and engineering. If something was too complicated for you to fix, you can call up your engineer to fix up. Then if you need to be healed, you can just stand next to your team doctor and they will patch you up instantly.

Con:

  • Graphics
    • I was hoping the graphics could be better, but it felt just the same from the previous game. I had hoped for an upgrade to the facial expressions, but all good though.

Rating: 8 out of 10
