Star Trek Picard Season 1 Paramount Plus Review

Star Trek Picard Season 1 Paramount Plus Review

I have been a fan of Star Trek since I was a young child in the barrio. I have dreams what eludes us in space with a good measure of stories of lives beyond our comprehension. I just got Paramount Plus, so I have been navigating what type of shows to check out and binge. I remember attending NYCC 2019 and CBS ALL ACCESS (before becoming Paramount Plus) was pushing a new Star Trek show with Captain Jean – Luc Picard. I didn’t get much information from them while I was at NYCC 2019, but still remembered the show’s name.

So I gave it a chance and watched the first episode….man oh man…I’M ADDICTED! While binging Picard, it felt like it was beyond Star Trek. You saw a future of Picard after his adventures from years ago being a man just trying to relax and count his blessings. He ventures into the unknown in this show and brings about a new and renewed fire in Star Trek lore! I have to say: Best show I’ve seen in YEARS!

Our thoughts:

Pro:

  • Story
    • The story continues years after Captain Picard is retired on his vineyard enjoying life. A woman visits him and talks to him that she is safe with him but he know her. While talking with her and looking into his past, he decides to take to check her DNA. Once they are out and about, assassins come out and kill her right in front of him. Picard is dazed yet continues on the journey on who is this woman and why she seems very familiar. The story continues with Picard looking for her twin while meeting various people that will end up being his crew! The story is so damn good, has a lil bit of Star Trek in there but with more up to date story that meshes with this generation. (Ahem, I know a pun)
  • Action
    • Tons of action! Explosions, fighting and more! Nuff Said! With a new cast of characters, they take the brunt of the action scenes as they showcase some cool sword fighting as well.
  • Different View of Star Trek television
    • I’ve been a fan of Star Trek since I was a child, and enjoyed the journey into the unknown of space. The stories that come from space is quite intriguing. This show has looked into further of that equation and showcased a evolution of where Star Trek is through various policies, politics and more. They continue to have the past of Picard shown with Will Riker and Deanna Troi as well as Mr. Data. I felt it was a good balance in this show of what is new and what is old!
