We attended the Thomas J Henry Superhero Car Show and Comic Con 2022 in San Antonio, TX. This show featured some big time guests such as Hulk Hogan and Ewan McGregor while also showcasing a museum like car show that was amazing. Our team attended all 4 days at the convention and we discussed what we enjoyed and what we didn’t enjoy of the convention that weekend.

We will be posting videos and pictures on our social media pages! Be sure to be following!

Here is our review:

Pro:

  • Car Show
    • The car show felt so prestigious as you walked on the red carpet that was on the floor. The cars on displayed were from many awesome fandoms including Stranger Things, GhostBusters, Transformers and much more. Our team enjoyed the car show portion of the convention. We stayed there longer as we filmed video and took pictures with cosplayers and our friends attending the event.
  • Celeb Guests
    • The celeb guests were stacked hard in this convention! Attending the event is former WCW and WWE World Champion Hulk Hogan,  Star Wars Legend Ewan McGregor, Dave Bautista, and many more! We were able to talk to Walking Dead’s Ross Marquand and Darth Vader from Rogue One Spencer Wilding. We saw a lot of excited fans get their photo and auto with their favorite guest attending.

Con:

  • Waiting In Heat
    • Our team arrives at  10 minutes prior to the 1pm opening  on Friday to to attend the event as the doors opened right at that time. Well to our astonishment there was a huge line nearly wrapping around towards the AT&T Center. While waiting in line, we had no shade or no water as “rules are no outside water or food”. With a diabetic in our team attending the event, we had to pray we made it inside before our team member would have an episode. We did see many people in wheel chairs and walkers waiting in line as well. Once closer to the front, a member of the volunteers did come out and got a few of the people who were in walkers and wheel chairs inside but not all. I did feel there should have been someone walking around checking on the fans waiting in line as a just in case measure. Granted, we made it inside after nearly an hour wait; but waiting in the heat for a 1pm time opening and still waiting for line to move through nearly an hour and no “outside drinks such as water” wasn’t planned properly by the convention. I hope to see improvements in that next year for their event.
  • Volunteers
    • Every event we attend, we enjoy talking to the volunteers as most are friends of ours that we have seen at numerous events. This year, we noticed UTSA Athletics doing majority of the volunteering around the convention. As a UTSA alum, I was ecstatic to see our university represented at the convention. While inside of the convention, I had a few questions concerning a few things in the convention area. I would find a UTSA volunteer to ask a question I had and they couldn’t answer my question. Instead of looking to find the answer, they quickly left my area and ignored my questions. I understand not knowing an answer to a question, but usually, a person would find someone that could have the answer and report back to the person asking the question. Instead, it was just ghosting on a different level.
  • Lack of Comic Inspiration on Con Side
    • While walking around the convention side of things, we felt it was lacking a few things. One, we only met a few artists and comic book writers. Second, they were put in a small area of the convention next to the arcade. Third, while walking around the main floor, it just didn’t feel like a comic con show. We saw some good cosplays and met some amazing people working their booths, but it felt the comic part of comic con portion was missing.
