SpongeBob Square Pants is in quite the pickle! He was having a bit fun with some bubbles that eventually turned his world into chaos! His friends are sent through various portals that will feature various crazy stories that will be a mind blowing! SpongeBob Square Pants: The Cosmic Shake is the new game from THQ Nordic that is taking the world by storm! You must help SpongeBob recover his world by making things right in each vortex that you go into.
We were able to get a Xbox digital key to play the game from our home prior to the release of the game. We were able to download the game quickly on our Xbox Series S console. I streamed the game a bit on Twitch once the embargo ended so you can watch myself and my son take turns playing the game.

Pro:
- Story
- The story felt like it was straight from an episode of SpongeBob on TV. You start the game off looking for your friend Patrick and then end up seeing their is a traffic jam and no one can get their favorite food. Then SpongeBob meets this mermaid that grants him this object that can make wishes come true as bubbles. Well SpongeBob goes a bit crazy and does bubbles for everyone in town. Then a vortex happens and everything is thrown into chaos! SpongeBob and a balloon Patrick must go through each vortex and set things right.
- Tutorial On The Go
- While your playing the game, you will get an image of a quick tutorial of what is needed before venturing into that situation. I like that as this tutorial gets me ready to push those certain buttons to beat that situation. This also helps me enjoy the game instead of doing a 15 minute tutorial prior to the start of the game that will potentially have myself turning off the game.
- Graphics
- Holy moly the graphics are insane in this game! You can see details of SpongeBob that you wouldn’t realize on him before. I was able to see the finite lines that were drawn on him on my 4K TV while still able to enjoy the game. The designers and artists did an amazing job bringing this game beyond life.
Con:
- Can Be Difficult
- While playing with my 7 year old son, we both had some difficulties while trying to pass a few levels. The jumping on different platforms to get around the game can be quite difficult when you accidently don’t double jump but hold the button down and then your holding a pizza floating to the bottom. There were numerous of times I would have to start all over again due to falling into the abyss. I enjoyed playing the game, but it can be difficult when your trying to jump to different platforms.
