Exploring the roots of her heritage in yet another striking release from the Swedish singer-songwriter, Shadi G is mesmerising in her dreamy new EP ‘Conversations Pt.1’, featuring stand out single ‘All I Can Be’.
Floating in with richly reverbed synth patterns and twinkling keys, ‘All I Can Be’ dives into a plethora of simmering 808’s and exotic melodies, as Shadi’s soft, ethereal vocals glimmer above the rhythm. A fusion of R&B, soul and electronica, the radiant atmosphere of the track can be traced back to the artist’s decision to blend modern musings with the traditional sounds of her Persian culture, an element that is at the forefront of the EP’s creation. Toying with the concept of co-existing and how it mirrors her multi-cultural identity, Shadi sings partially in Farsi across ‘Conversations Pt.1’, with the poetic nature of the language a beautiful pairing to her music. Written, produced and released by Shadi through her own label Goldamin Records, she was inspired by conversations that she had with family, friends and herself to garner a better understanding of her existence.
Beguiling and unique, Shadi G has always had music at the core of her life. Immersed in the sounds of jazz, hip-hop, soul and Iranian music from a young age, she also became trained in classical music, which led her to the intricate approach she has to music-making today. Relocating to London after high school to study music production, she quickly discovered her distinct flair and began releasing singles, with debut single ‘Lost’ arriving in 2016, followed shortly by ‘Where We Go’, ‘Space’, ‘This Love’ and ‘The Wound Is The Place Where The Light Enters You’. Crossing borders in both style and language, Shadi isn’t afraid to experiment, an aspect that has piqued the interest of some of Sweden’s biggest music magazines, as well as features on COLORS and Earmilk. The first offering from the EP, ‘Goddess Pt.1’ has already been met with acclaim, with an impressive 139,000 streams on Spotify alone, and ‘All I Can Be’ looks set to follow suit, as well as fellow singles ‘Walk And The Path Appears’ and ‘Jahaie Jadid’. Counting 6lack, Snoh Aalegra and Little Simz as some of her inspirations, Shadi G is the new face of contemporary R&B, and her talent knows no bounds.
