Windsor, ONTARIO (Tuesday, January 14, 2025) – Alternative rock band, River Honey, will release their debut full-length album, Ultraviolet, on Thursday, January 16, 2025. This eight-song collection fuses gritty, industrial tones with a cosmic sense of wonder, reflecting Windsor’s enduring connection to its automotive past.
From the driving anthem “Tarantula” to the introspective title track, “Ultraviolet,” the album tells a story of resilience, exploration, and community. Its closing track, “Constellations,” with full-sounding acoustic guitars and lush harmonies, captures the album’s message of enduring warmth and connection with the chorus: “If you slow down and stay right here, we can watch the sun slowly disappear.”
The band’s music is deeply inspired by Windsor’s industrial legacy as the “Automotive Capital of Canada.” With roots in a city built on the backs of factory workers and innovators, River Honey’s sound melds the grit of hardworking hands with a longing to look beyond – toward the stars. This duality, the grounded and the infinite, resonates through Ultraviolet. Drawing on influences from the 1990s alternative rock scene, the band channels icons like The Sundays, the Tragically Hip, and Pearl Jam, blending nostalgia with raw energy.
“Ultraviolet is about finding beauty in both the challenges we face and the infinite possibilities in life,” says Madeline Doornaert, bassist of River Honey. “Dane’s lyrics, which focus on connection, paired with fresh yet nostalgic guitar parts, feels both deeply personal and boundless to play. That tension between grit and wonder is part of what defines our sound.”
About River Honey:
River Honey’s sound is a reflection of the warm character and grit of their industrial hometown, Windsor, Ontario. Growing up along the banks of the Detroit River deeply connected to the local automotive manufacturing plant, the band descends from generations of tireless factory and trade workers. Their sound resonates with echoes of the 1990s grunge and raw rock and roll movement (The Tragically Hip, Pearl Jam, The Sundays). As they take the stage together, River Honey imbues gripping nostalgic melodies and heartfelt lyrics of a group whose connection runs as deep as the river that shaped them.
