NEW YORK, (August 31, 2019) – Playcrafting – one of the largest communities of game creators in the United States – and Bose announced today they are debuting six heads up, hands free audio AR games built using the Bose AR platform at PAX West 2019, which takes place August 30 – September 2 in Seattle. The games will be featured as part of the traveling Bose AR-cade at booth #5208.

The Bose AR-cade is part of a year-long alliance between Playcrafting and Bose to invest in game developers nationwide. Through the collaboration, Playcrafting and Bose hosted paid Game Jams in Boston, New York City, Seattle, San Francisco and at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019. During the Game Jams, 72 gave developers worked together in their respective cities to create 18 exclusive games using the latest Bose AR-enabled wearables and developer tools to be showcased in the Bose AR-cade at the gaming industry’s biggest events in 2019, including PAX East, Play NYC 2019 and PAX West. The Bose AR-cade at PAX West will feature games created during the Seattle and San Diego Comic-Con Game Jams.

so they can bring innovative experiences to thousands of game players and Bose AR users.

“Some of the most creative and innovative creators are part of the gaming industry,” said Playcrafting Founder Dan Butchko. “Through our alliance with Bose, we’re able to empower and arm these independent developers with the cutting edge technology so they can bring innovative experiences to thousands of game players and Bose AR users.”

The PAX West 2019 Bose AR-cade games include:

  • HAUNT AR – A classic escape-the-room style game with an auditory twist. Like other room escapes, the player’s goal is to search various objects in the room to find keys, which open the exit door. However, in HAUNT, the player cannot see, so they must use audio cues to “feel around” the room for searchable objects.

  • EYE HEAR THE MAZE – You play as a one-eyed zombie who gets his head stuck in a box. Once inside, you realize you’re not really in a box but rather in a huge maze in the jungle. You’re now on the search for your lost eye by tilting the maze and receiving help from a mischievous monkey.

  • TRAMPOLINE AR – You’re required to walk across a tightrope while dodging any manner of obstacles that are being shot at them. Use your ears to determine when to dodge incoming cannon fire, and jump out of the way.

  • THE CLAIRVOYANT – You may not be able to see dead people, but you can definitely hear them. Become a medium by using the Bose AR technology to tune into the auditory spirit plane full of the pleas of ghosts yearning to cross over and an originally composed score.

  • PITCHWAVE AR – Experience a future in which A.I. has become ubiquitous in our culture and day to day interactions are complicated by even more social nuance.

  • BLOODRAILS – You play as an adventurer trapped in a barren Urban nightmare and surrounded by feral demon trains in 2056. Helped by your partner who guides you and comments on what’s happening to get to pinpoint the demon trains’ positions by listening carefully.

The Bose AR-cade is centered around the revolutionary Bose AR Frames and QC35 Series II headphones, recently updated with Bose AR technology. These products feature the world’s first audio augmented reality platform. Unlike other augmented reality platforms, Bose AR doesn’t change what you see, or use a lens or phone camera to superimpose objects in your sightline. Instead, it combines a nine-axis, head motion sensor with the GPS from a paired iOS or Android device to produce a layer of audio, connecting users’ movement, or the exact place they’re looking at, to provide endless possibilities for gaming, and more.
