Sorry To Keep You Up, produced and engineered by Ben Soldate and co-produced by Payson Lewis, is Lewis’s newest masterpiece showcasing his impressive ability to infuse deep emotions into his craft. The 11-track collection begins with “Blurrier,” an upbeat song reflecting on his hopes and dreams when relocating to Los Angeles. The piece combines electrifying guitar riffs and introspective lyrics, a perfect introduction to the record. “Primal” is different from the rest of the tracks, giving off darkness and sensuality as the name indicates. The song’s simple instrumentation throughout its verse brings a stark contrast to the intricate layers of the chorus, “I don’t make money like I should, Got no room with a view, But I’ll give you something good, It’s primal, It’s primal, I know you understood, Like you already knew, I can feel you feel me too, we’re primal, we’re primal.” The final track named after the title “Sorry to Keep You Up” feels like a reflection on everything Lewis has endured and experienced throughout his musical journey. It expresses the hardship of trying to pursue a dream, and the drive and determination needed to succeed. He writes, “Missed another holiday, Working towards a raise, Counting up change, Just to store it away in a 401k, Facing down the rat race, Thinking first place will be the end of my chase.” Sorry To Keep You Up is an artistic illustration of Payson Lewis’s career up to this point, exploring the highs and lows and expressing that you’ll always need to keep hustling and moving forward. Lewis writes about the record, “Over 4 years in the making, this album stands as a testament to the perseverance of the people around me who’ve believed in me and willed me to keep going. This collection combines the contributions of over 30 incredibly talented people-musicians, writers, arrangers, engineers, and fellow artists. To all of whom, I am forever indebted.”
