Paige Drobot Returns with Genre-Bending New Single “Alien Girl”

Award-winning guitarist and singer-songwriter Paige Drobot is thrilled to announce the release of her latest single, “Alien Girl.” Known for her unforgettable stage presence, inimitable sound, and deeply personal songwriting, Paige continues to push the boundaries of genre with her nostalgic yet innovative approach to guitar music.

“Alien Girl” is a fusion of rock, nostalgic pop, doo-wop, and freakbeat, recorded in Paige’s home studio in Winnipeg alongside two bandmates, Adam and Derek Cherpako. The trio utilized analogue recording techniques and vintage gear to complement the old-school songwriting, resulting in a sound that’s both timeless and refreshingly unique.

Paige’s songwriting draws from her own experiences with bipolar disorder, bad luck, and bad choices, creating a deeply vulnerable yet energetic performance style. Her stream-of-consciousness lyrics often explore themes of alienation and feeling out of touch with the world, as is evident in “Alien Girl.” The song was inspired by the doo-wop and vocal groups of the late 1940s to early 1960s, with a focus on storytelling that deviates from the typical love and heartbreak narratives.

“The lyrics that came out for ‘Alien Girl’ ended up being about alienation, and feeling out of touch with the people around me,” says Paige. “It’s old soul stuff with a modern twist.”

The accompanying music video for “Alien Girl” adds another layer of creativity to Paige’s work. Shot by Buio Assis, the video features Paige in green makeup, a nod to her earlier days with her band The Psychics, where she would paint her face a different colour for each show. The video was filmed in a grocery store during business hours, creating an authentic and candid atmosphere that resonates with Paige’s fans and first-time viewers alike.

“The music video was so wild to make,” Paige recalls. “I was honestly so surprised by how supportive most comments were. A lot of cute retired folks wishing me the best. Greening myself took all the pressure off—no matter what, I would look silly and ugly, and that’s okay. I’m not a model, I’m a musician.”

She is deeply involved in all aspects of her music, from recording and mixing to designing the artwork, to styling her bandmates in her vintage clothes collection and being a self-managed artist. Despite her many roles, Paige remains focused on what she does best: creating music that speaks to the heart and soul.
