The controversial documentary of Mr. McMahon is out now on Netflix. I have been waiting on this documentary because I wanted to know more about Mr. McMahon. He is the greatest promoter in wrestling history and taken wrestling to new heights in a matter of years. We all know about the lawsuit and things going against Mr. McMahon at the moment. We know that he will be eventually scrubbed just like Chris Benoit on WWE television and I believe it already has been done. What interests me in this documentary is who is Mr. McMahon and how he became the person he is today?
I have been watching the documentary off and on today even while getting my oil change. I will not spoil much in this review but they do go into depth of Mr. McMahon’s past and present. They digged deep in each episode and discuss with Vince the previous lawsuits in the 80’s and 90’s that he and WWE were involved in. They did show and discuss how his son Shane wanted love and attention from his father, but Vince had other ideas and other things involved. This was filmed prior to the allegations of what is going on with Vince today and some parts of the doc included some information Vince said that may be used against him in courts. Either way, as a wrestling and history fan, this is a good watch for anyone that wanted to see more of the past in wrestling.
My Thoughts
Pro:
- History of Mr. McMahon
- I enjoyed hearing the stories of the 80’s and 90’s from Vince and wrestlers that were around him. He said some things that fixed up rumors about Vince of those stories. Vince talked about the time his horrible time with his mother and then with his father, he wanted to be a success like him. He wanted love as well but had to adapt to those circumstances. Vince had a huge drive to build his business beyond what everyone around him told not to do. He did it anyway and he did it his way.
- Inside look
- Montreal Screwjob! One of the episodes, they discussed the situation between Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, and that moment at Survivor Series. I enjoyed learning more about that and how Vince handled that situation at the time where he needed to protect WWE’s image. I felt it was the thing he had to do at that time that would make sure WWE’s legacy was kept.
