MES Album Release Party Event

I had the wonderful opportunity and experience to witness the album release concert of Mariachi Entertainment System and oh man was this a concert.

Located at San Antonio’s The Rock Box, we had a plethora of musicians come out and play some nerd music for all us nerds out there and it got me way more excited that it probably should of (*wink). Starting off the show and in between bands, we had DJ R.O.C.K.M.A.N. who blew me away. The tracks he played were amazing and kept everyone up beat and in the moment without any pause. Imagine Pinky and the Brain them song techno version. Check him out on Sound Cloud then get back to me with your thanks.

The first main band was none other than our own Bitforce from San Antonio, TX! I was absolutely STUNNED by their music. Nerdcore would be the best way to describe it with heavy metal and nostalgic game music twisted into one. It’s my new obsession right now and the only thing that actually calms my dog down in the car…weird. Their Legend of Zelda interpretation was to die for and I dare everyone one of you to go and listen to them right now!

Up next, we had Super Soul Bros.! I have been a fan of Super Soul Bros. for about three years and they have never disappointed me. This was the first time I’ve seen them live and put on a show and it got my heart all melty and energetic at the same time. They have a very special place in my heart to begin with so just seeing them perform their music and new music that I haven’t heard was magical and made my internally explode. Stickerbush Symphony is my all-time favorite song from them because it’s a jazzy, slow, Donkey Kong 2 on Super Nintendo mix up and it’s one of the best things that ever hit my ear drums. They were GREAT, check them out.

Next was the band of the night, Mariachi Entertainment System or MES. If you ever wanted to hear mariachi music mixed with gaming music, here they are, the band of your dreams and mine. I have never heard them before this concert and I fell in love. Just the sound of upbeat mariachi music gives people chills but add gaming music to that and you skin is melting off. Their rendition of a Kirby mashup had me chilled to my core! Especially if you are from San Antonio, TX you will appreciate their music and heart that they put in each song.

Last but not least, Mega Ran came on. If you guys don’t know who Mega Ran is, then what are you doing and go find out. His raps are amazing and hit home with all the nostalgia and creativity that goes in each song. His rhythms and rhymes got all us nerds excited and let us live in the moment and pretend that we are all hard and gangster for that short splash of time.

The concert was an array of different genres of music from metal to jazz to mariachi to rap. It hit the mark for everyone and had others experiencing something new. I, personally, bought all of their cd’s and had all the bands sign theirs because they each spoke something to me and I am sure at least one of them would speak something to you. This is the era of music with nerd and gaming themes to emerge and I strongly encourage you to listen to their music, especially if you are a gamer, and I am sure you’d find something you like.

Thanks for reading and go find your next new favorite song! <3
