Ma is a revenge tale years in the making Ma (Octavia Spencer) was humiliated as a high school teen. The trauma she lived with changed her and she took it out on her child. Erica (Juliette Lewis) and her daughter Maggie move back to town. As Maggie makes new friends a chance encounter will cross the paths of Maggie and her new friends with Ma. Starting an unlikely friendship with Ma but all is not as it seems and Maggie starts to get a feeling Ma is not who she is says she is. Ma gets flashback while interacting with the teens of her trauma. The story of her revenge unfolds and her list is everyone that was there that day. She hit them where it hurts the most and no one will stand in her way. Overall this one is more revenge film than horror but is done well a love letter to the 80’s high school revenge films like Slaughter High and many more of that era. Octavia does a tremendous job as Ma and takes the character to a dark place. The Blu-Ray is loaded with a ton of special features and are worth the watch. Out of Blu-Ray 09-03-19 be sure to pick it up.
