Interview with Zoe

Today, we sat down with the band Zoe to talk about music they listened to growing up, advice for musicians and much more!

Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

  • Clément (bass) : It’s a need to express ourself, to create something that is ours and that we cherish, the artists we admire, and the rich culture between every genres, also, all of us grew up listening to so many things, we wanted to do like our heros, and also have something on our own
  • Fred (voice/guitar) : About the lyrics i’m inspired by readings, movies, life experiences…

 

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

  • Holy (drums) : I listen to a lot of music, but specially metal when I heard Pantera for the first time in 92“, but I also like some Hiphop, Electro or classical sounds
  • Fred : Many stuff from blues to
  • Aldo (guitar) : I discovered rock’n’roll before I was 10 years old listening to Johnny Hallyday a French singer, he was doing songs by Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee, Elvis, Little .. in French version. When I was 12 years old it was the great time of AC/DC with Back in Black, I became a fan and I am still more than 40 years later. AC/DC opened me up to hard rock and I listened to all the hard rock and heavy scene of the 80s. With time my tastes have diversified, today I listen to blues, rock’n’roll, stoner, doom, reggae, soul…

 

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

  • Fred : Personally not
  • Holy : My father ! Several years ago, he underwent open heart surgery, recently he beat his tongue cancer, despite that, he continued to take care of my grandmother until the end… I never heard him complain, he always comes to see me play as soon as I perform near his house, he takes care of his family and he is an incredible grandfather for my daughters so it’s obvious that I couldn’t have another hero than him
  • Aldo : I have always been fascinated by Keith Richards

 

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

  • Holy : I’d be a Hockey player, certainly a goalie, for me, he has the same job for his team as a drummer in a You know, like a foundation of a house
  • Fred : Maybe painter or writer
  • Aldo : I’ll be a record store or an actor or a porn producer

 

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

  • Clément : Have fun, do what you have to do and don’t let people put you down
  • Fred : Don’t try to copy someone, be yourself. Aldo : First of all to remain sincere !
