Today, we sat down with Truth & Tragedy to talk music writing inspiration, advice for musicians and much more! Be sure to check out their music and social media below after the interview!

Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

We take inspiration from everywhere! Whether it’s something that inspires one of us within the music scene, or maybe something we’ve seen in the news, or whether it’s particular people in our life – these things definitely affect what we write about. Our latest EP ‘Blood on Blood’ was inspired by family, where we explore both the happiest and most tragic aspects of family love: the birth of a son, and the attempted suicide of a brother. So yes our surroundings and personal experiences form the biggest inspiration for our music!

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

We all listened to basically anything we could get our hands on when we were growing up! And we’re still fans of all kinds of genres today. But we all definitely had a love for pop-punk, which is why we keep coming back to it in our own music! We had a lot of fun putting our Truth & Tragedy spin on it in our track ‘Burn The Witch’, and we’re currently recording a brand new pop-punk number, which we will be releasing later this year – we can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

Is there someone you looked up to as a hero?

We all had our musical heroes growing up – for example, Aaron’s was (and still is) Bon Jovi, and he can remember lip-syncing to ‘Always’ practically in his diaper! Freddy’s dad is also a musician, so he looks up to him a lot, and they still play gigs together which is awesome!

If you weren’t a musician today, what would you be doing?

We get asked this a lot, and it’s a really hard question! To be honest, even though we all have other commitments in our lives, we can’t imagine not having music in our lives! Except Vitali – he’s some kind of mad genius, so if we hadn’t held him back, he’d probably be running the Illuminati or something by now.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

Have fun with it, experiment, and find your own sound! People can be so fanatical about keeping in line with a genre, or sounding a certain way, and we always think it’s a shame when we see long-time fans of bands complaining when bands try something new. Life changes, we as individuals change, and so it’s natural for our music to change with us!

So definitely go with the flow, and make sure you’re making the music you love, not the music you “should”!
