Today, we sat down with the band Total Recall to discuss their inspiration to write music, advice for future musicians and much more!

Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?

We do not have any particular inspiration, it’s a creative process triggered by the bond we have and the meaning of the band in general. We could actually say that we are eachother inspiration. When we are writing in the studio eachother influences, mood and temper act as real influence.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

Musically we are influenced by allot of Heavy Styles, let’s say Deathmetal, Blackmetal, Hardcore,Post Hardcore, Numetal, Beatdown and so on. We do listen to alternative rock, blues, country, stoner as well.

Music is a crucial part of our life since we were kids so we had several bands who really influenced us throughout the years and most of all the ages. Even now that we are in our late 40’s we still have bands that we consider as influencial. This is also a watershed to distinguish what we consider true from the millions of good albums that are only another product on the digital shelf. Also we do not live in the past, we are always on the lookout for new music and new bands even though we are loyal to the great bands of the past

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

Collectively as a band not really…..actually yes. The true hero is our friend Massy who passed away in 2019 after a fight against a disease. We toured with him for more than 20 years in different bands and we formed Total Recall to honor his memory. The way he approached all his life is a constant inspiration for us.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

Some of us would enjoy more the pub for sure, some would watch Horror or 80’s movies way more probably starting a podcast or whatever, some would play Basketball and try to become a coach, some would ride a bike, all of us  would enjoy to spend as much time as possible with families and friends. Simple stuff.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?

Play what you like. Don’t focus on create something that can be liked, just like it first yourself. Be true to yourself and give 100% every time you are in the studio or on a stage. There is no money in this music so don’t waste your time in becoming a product, invest your time in your skills and write the best songs you can.
