Today, we had the chance to get an interview done with The Ocean Beneath. We are very excited to hear more about the The Ocean Beneath and the music they create. Check out as we learn more about their music, growing up, and Pink Floyd inspiration.
Here is the interview
1. What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?
Our surroundings are always going to influence the sound and writing I feel. A big influence to write for me personally is what’s going on around me, the world offers up such an array of emotions and feelings which can be found everywhere you look, turning these in to sound is just something I love to do.
2. What type of music did you listen to growing up?
I think I first really got into music listening to Pink Floyd records that my dad played. Once I realized how much I enjoyed music I bought an electric guitar and played along with the solos. We also listened to Talk Talk, Madness, ELO and Vangelis.
3. Is there someone you looked up to as a hero?
Dave Gilmour, for me hands down he is the most controlled guitar player ever. Every move and sound is always intentional with his playing. I wish I had that much control on the synthesizers.
4. If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
It’s difficult to say but I’d probably be doing something else artistic, before music as a kid I remember being really in to drawing and then after I started playing music I don’t think I ever drew again really, I guess I was just delivering the same thing with a different type of art.
5. What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?
Just do it, dive in to Ableton or Cakewalk the free DAW, buy a couple of cheap bits of home studio gear and go for it. All the tools are available and you’ll never get a feeling quite like finishing off your latest piece of work. Fire us a message on Twitter @TheOceanBeneath if you want any advise. Just do it ?
