Today, we sat down with The Last Element to talk favorite music growing up, what they would be doing if they weren’t musicians, and advice for future rockers! Be sure to check out their music after the interview below to jam to some good tunes!

Here is the interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

life inspires me (Jasper), simple as that, a lot of emotions arise from the daily, when I write lyrics it’s always inspired by real life events that I go through, some I’ve been through and some are happening, but mostly I just write what pops up in my head. I need a pen and paper to clear my head, screaming and singing it all out of my head when I record. In the end it’s something we all face and we all have different ways of expressing what we feel. I’m sure a lot of people can relate to the lyrics, cause honestly it’s not about me… it’s about you.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

At the age of 6 I started listening to Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine and some other sick bands! When I got a little bit older I really got into more heavy music, like slipknot, Sepultura and some obscure death metal bands! Nowadays I really love the core bands, bands like I prevail, Bring Me The Horizon, Cane Hill etc! Sooo much good music out there.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

Hmm I think Chester Bennington, really loved LP, thought his voice was phenomenal, he can scream, shout, sing and it all sounds good. It really inspired me, but not only his voice is incredible, from what I’ve seen he is just a really cool person as well, warm and loving. That’s something I as well aspire 😊

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

We’ll we can’t live from music… so I am also the owner of a company called BrainBoost, it’s a tutoring company focussed on learning how to learn, it’s really nice, I work with a lot of different cool teachers, have nice students, meet nice parents, cool schools etc. It’s no a bad life, best of all, I only work part time and have a lot of time to focus on music!

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

Take your time!! Work hard, but enjoy the whole process. I started at the age of 14, writing crap songs, sucking at singing and just it was all very mediocre. But I took the time, practiced every single day, recorded myself singing and learning what sounds good.

We as a band wrote a lot of songs and a lot didn’t make the cut, it’s ok, just keep on working and sometimes you just record a little gem, there is no better feeling than when a song comes to life because you are working together with your mates 😊!
